*Aurora's POV*
"I have to go." He mumbled, before pushing pass me, and running out the yard. He was probably running of to find food. Hopefully, he doesn't end up having a person for lunch.
I couldn't even tell he was a vampire. He seemed so normal- except for that comment about me sounding perfect. That's exactly what I thought of Zayn (and Liam. Other than his abnormally good looks, I thought Zayn was a normal person. I didn't even think vampires existed. Even if they do exist (and it's not just in my head), wouldn't they try to hide in fear of being captured and killed, or experimented on? If this was all true (which it is), why would Zayn reveal his secret so easily? Was this the doing of the Council? Did they set him up?
Maybe, he was supposed to get closer to me, so that he could recruit me. Which means all the conversations and memories we had were fake, and I fell into his trap. Now I'm one of them, and I can never go back.
Another thought popped up. So many people I thought I knew turned out to be vampires. What if Kayla is a vampire? What if my parents are vampires? When did this all become so confusing?
I pondered all of this while staring at the drink in my hand.
"So how did I- Where is he?" Kayla scanned the small crowd.
"He left. Said something about practice." I lied. I don't think it's necessary to tell her. Does she even know that her boyfriend is a vampire?
"I've gotta run too. See you whenever." I walked briskly out of her front yard, leaving her very confused. I went home, and whizzed pass my mother in the kitchen. Once I was in my room, I pulled out the books I borrowed from the shop, and began to read 'Chasing Red' to get my mind off everything. Soon, I fell asleep reading the book- which I though was impossible. I mean, how do you even fall asleep reading a book? How?!
-----Three hours later-----
I woke up to Zayn tapping my shoulder lightly.
"Hey, Sleeping Beauty." He sat down next to me.
"Hi, Prince Charming."
All of this was the norm. Nicknames, code signs, and handshakes.
"Let's get down to it." I started, "Zayn, I chased a squirrel across the park."
He put his hand under his chin. His perfectly chiseled chin.....
"Okay, and?" He quipped.
I deadpanned him.
"I'm kidding." He laughed, but I rolled my eyes. This is not a laughing matter.
"Stop being an ass, and help me!"
"If I was an ass, would I be the hottest ass?" He mused, disregarding my plead for help.
"Then, you'd be my ass." I sassed. We both froze for a second before bursting into hysteric laughter. We didn't stop laughing for at least five minutes. I finally calmed down, and we got back on course.
"But, seriously!" I threw my arms into the air, "I need help!"
"Yes, you do." His sly comment slipped out almost unnoticeably. When did he get this sassy?
"You can get blood from Liam. Since you live with people, you might have to hide it." He stated.
There was a few moments of silence before he spoke again.
"The Council would like to meet you." I swiveled my head to stare at him. Meet me?
"What?" I was confused. Why would they need to meet me? All I was supposed to do was dream.
"You're a pure blood vampire. You have to be initiated into the Council." Nope. Not happening. I do not want to get involved in this.
"Ummmm." I stared at him, "Oh, I'm hungry, and you should leave." I sounded awkward, which was odd.
I shooed him from my room.
"What does that have to do with you being hungry?" He yelled.
"It has everything to do with my hunger!" I pushed him outside, "I will eat you!" I threatened.
"Bye!" He shouted before I shut the door in his face.
My mom was standing next to the island, an alarmed expression on her face. I gave her an innocent smile, and went back to my room. I know I can't avoid Zayn forever, but................I can try.
'The Council always get what they want.'
I remembered his words from about a week ago. That can't be true, at least, not all the time.
There was a little knock on my window. Zayn gave me a little wave accompanied by an innocent smile.
"Really?" I muttered, rolling my eyes, and opening the window.
"I can't get away from you, can I?"
He frowned.
"You don't like me?" He put his hand over his heart.
"I don't like you......I love you."
"You're a part of the Council, whether you like it or not, Rory." He forgot about my last quip.
I scoffed at his statement. I was a part of the human race a while ago, wasn't I?
"Okay. Give me one day." He proposed, " I'll show you around our clan, and then, maybe, we can reach a compromise with the Council."
"And then, I come back home?"
"Maybe."
I don't actually have to be a part of the Council. All I have to do is help them. This is stressful. Two weeks ago, I was a semi-normal teenage girl. I'm only seventeen; This shouldn't be happening to me.
"Can I come in? It's going to look weird to your neighbors."
I moved aside silently, letting him in.
"I'm free any day of the week, because it's summer, and I have no life." I sighed.
"That's great. How about tonight?" He plopped onto the bed next to me. Is he serious? He really expects me to go tonight?
"To the Council? Tonight?!" I crossed my legs.
"No, silly. I mean, let's go out tonight." He ruffled my hair, "I can practically feel the stress radiating off of you."
Sure. Of course I'd want to go out with a super hit vampire dude.
"Yeah, but where?"
