Chapter 10: Going home

Dani's prov

I woke up still locked in Colton's arms and a warm feeling washed over me as I watched him sleep. I traced his handsome face wondering why I deserved such an angel in my life after all that has happened. After I broke up my family I felt like everything I touched crumbled into pieces around me, but as I looked at Colton I was reminded of that feeling of him always being on my side. I'd only had that feeling once before a warm feeling spread through my veins at the thought until realization suddenly hit me like a brick and my eyes widened before I broke out of Colton's steel grip.

"Dani, what's going on?" Colton whisper/ growled sitting up as soon as I left his embrace. His face was distorted looking predatory while his eyes glowed liquid silver and all I could do was stare at him like some lovesick puppy. "Danniella?" He questioned quietly smirking while hunger grew in his eyes when he figured out why I couldn't take my own eyes off of him. He fanned his warm breath over my face and we were nose to nose. I shook my head keeping my eyes closed breaking his trance over me.

"Knight." I turned around hating myself for forgetting him. "Where is Knight?" I asked desperately looking around for the big black dog. I could feel Colton hug me from behind effortlessly calming me down.

"Relax, Dani he's fine. He's probably up at the house or around here somewhere." He whispered into my hair.

"I can't believe I forgot about Knight I'm such a horrible person, he's probably so mad at me." I growled to myself pulling my hair in despair.

"Hey, hey Danniella it will be fine. Knight loves you and he could never hate you." Colton released my hold on my hair before gently stroking my face.

"But it feels like such a long time has passed. You don't understand we are all each other has, we protect each other, he's my everything and I FORGOT ABOUT HIM!" I screamed in horror at my realization. I had forgotten my baby and I had no clue where he was. Suddenly I needed him so I ran off instantly transforming mid air and it burned like I threw myself into the roaring red hot flames of hell before trying to find Knight's familiar scent in the air.

I burst through bush after bush before I stumbled across Vera's house and howled in excitement when I saw Knight in the doorway wagging his tail. I sprinted towards him and as soon as we met he licked my face while I nuzzled him wagging my tail. I transformed into my human body so I could hug him and scratch his head then his belly like he loves. That's how Colton found us me back in my human body with a giant grin on my face rubbing Knight's belly while I told him how much I was sorry and I loved him.

As I glanced in Colton's direction I held my breath at the beautiful smile covering his face instantly making me melt. He walked over to me, but only kissed my forehead before walking into the house leaving me to have time with my best friend. My heart swelled with happiness as I watched him walk into the house and I smiled down at Knight as he attacked me with kisses. With Knight at my side I walked back towards the tree line to collect my clothes and necklace. I frowned at the soaked clothing, but instantly smiled when I saw the necklace and tied it back into place around my neck where it felt like it belonged.

When we got back to the house Colton was on the phone so I took Knight with me into the bathroom to get us both cleaned up when I noticed the crumpled up leaves embedded in his pelt along with the dried mud clumps stuck to his paws. I got some clothes from Vera's room before running a bath which I got in first I quickly washing my skin clean before getting out and wrapping a towel around myself. Then I helped Knight get into the water before I scrubbed him clean while he just smiled down at me reminding me of home for a split second and I froze as dark memories flickered in my mind.
