After fifty minutes, three piles of wrapping paper, and two of the adults obsessing over the new lingerie that they received from their husbands--which was when the kids temporarily walked out of the room--Harry and Noel finally got the opportunity to open their gifts. In realization, the kids squirmed in the area they were sitting down with bright, jolly smiles on their faces.
Anne and Jane both passed them small rectangles that were wrapped in a classic red wrapping paper. "Merry Christmas darling," they told their children as the two women--who seemed to be close friends--stood next to each other.
"Want to open these at the same time?" Harry asked with a smile, which Noel returned immediately.
"One... Two... Three!" They raced to see who can unwrap the quickest, and Noel won. Surprisingly, she had the entire piece of wrapping paper still in tact, while Harry had bits and pieces in every direction.
"Are these books?" Noel asked her mom.
"Well, kinda like books. But they're different," her mom told her, moving closer in order to help explain exactly what it was.
"It looks like a book, but it's your book," Anne informed them.
"You can write whatever you want in here, whenever you want." This made them even both excited.
They started messing around with the journal, as if expecting it to grow wings and fly away, causing amusement among the adults.
"Hey, I have an idea," Harry said excitedly. "Since we became friends today on Christmas, why don't we both write in these together every year on Christmas, so that we don't forget about today?"
Noel absolutely loved the idea and tightly wrapped her arms around his small torso in a very cute hug. "I like that idea. Want to do that right now?" He nodded. The returned to their spot on the couch and dedicated their full attention to attempting to decipher the journals.
And right before they started writing, Anne snapped a quick photo of the two newly best friends with her polaroid camera. "Here," she handed the two children a photo each. "You can start your journal adventures by putting this on the first page." Harry and Noel both nodded as they gently took the photographs into their palms and taped them (credits to Noel's mom for finding the tape) to the first page like Anne told them to do.
As the amount of adults started to lessen as the time passed, Noel and Harry were both still indulged in their journals as Anne took more secret photos of the two.
"Want to write the same thing tonight?" she asked as him nodded.
"Got it," Harry says proudly.
"Good," Noel says, yawning in the middle of it.
Not long after, she fell asleep next to him while both children were cradling their journals closely to their chest.

"Want to stay in Harry's room, since there's lack of space?" Anne asked Jane.
Jane nodded and looked at the sleeping children with adoration in her eyes. "They're so precious," she whispered to Anne.
"They're going to be best friends now. I can guarantee it," Anne said with a smile as she lay Harry and Noel on halves of the sofa with blankets and pillows.
