Gianna

"Did you see it?" My co-worker, Adria spoke, walking next to me down the hallway.

"Haven't see the Christmas tree yet. Come on, it can't be that bi-" I spoke, stopping midway to admire the huge Christmas tree that was placed in the room, more like Damien's office. My jaw dropped at the sight of it.

The tree was so huge, with lights streamed all over it, which lit up the whole room. Although it wasn't real, the tree looked magnificent.

Looking back, I realized Damien wasn't a big fan of Christmas back in high school. Ever since his mom died on Christmas when he was ten, his father and sister didn't seem to mind the holiday anymore, the last time I saw them.

Meanwhile, I was the opposite; Christmas was one of my favorite holidays. I used the hate it before I had my kids but I have grown to love it. Seeing their faces when they opened their gifts always made my day even more better.

"You like it?" Damien asked me, popping out of nowhere. Adira excused herself to go do some work, while Damien shut his office door, and shutting the blinds as well.

I smiled, walking up to him, as he wrapped his arms around my waist. Ever since the make-out session we had, things became less awkward between the two of us.

"I love it. Since when do you like Christmas?" I questioned him, his arms still around me.

"Since you haven't stopped talking about it for a few days now. So, why not make it better." He spoke, pecking me on the lips. I smiled, as I responded to the kiss with one of my own.

"Now this I could get used to," He responded, as we separated.

For a while, things were starting to look up.

Damien

Opening the door, thoughts spun around in my mind. For some reason, work was quiet around the winter time, but got hectic during other seasons. Today had been a long day, making decisions and filling out more paperwork than needed.

On the other hand, I had a Christmas tree installed in my office for her. The expression on her face when she saw it made my heart tingle with something I didn't understand. Hell, I have never understood the feeling once since she arrived.

When we kissed, it was different then what I had expected. Once my lips had met hers, electricity ran through my veins and I wanted her so badly.

But, with everything I had been through, I knew I didn't have a good shot.

When we had met, we were in freshmen year. She was very outgoing and never afraid to speak up, while I just playfully bothered her all the time. I wasn't the best teenager, but I turned out alright.

When I was in the tenth grade, I had started dating a girl named Britney, a close friends of Gianna's. Although she claimed she was happy for us, I could see it in her eyes, she was jealous. After that, and loosing most of her old friends including Britney because of reasons I don't want to talk about, she retorted to drinking and partying. I tried to stop her but she didn't need my help and she wasn't telling me anything else.

At that time, tenth grade was coming to an end, Britney and I were driving and arguing about Gianna, who had gotten into a fight with Britney. All the feelings I had for Gianna got pushed aside when we had crashed into a tree on the side of the road.

Britney was thrown from the car and died that night. I however only walked away from the accident with a concussion and a fractured arm.

The loss of Britney devastated me, making me believe it was my fault. Despite the help I tried to get, nothing worked. One thing lead to another and I ended up doing drugs.
