Chapter 6, The Day of Forever

A year has passed so quickly. Some things have changed, but ever since that day, Sungjae never talked about his parents again nor his parents visited him.

Throughout the year, I learnt many things and I can now go outside on my own. I had special lessons for a year and I'm preparing to enter something they called high school even though I'm almost twenty now. They said I need a high school certificate to get to college which is a higher level of education.

Meanwhile, Sungjae is now officially a detective. He has solved so many cases and got promoted in time. There are many times he's rarely home but our relationship and love stayed the same, if not deeper.

This night, Sungjae bought me a new dress and told me to wear it for dinner. When I came out of my room, there was a soft music playing in the background, there were flower petals scattered on the floor and candles lit up.

"What is this?" I asked.

And then he came out wearing a suit and tie that made him look even more breathtakingly handsome. He held a bouquet of beautiful flowers in his hand and then he walked towards me and got down on one knee.

I had no idea what he was doing. I haven't read this in books I've had hold of.

He, then, took out a diamond ring. "Hong Mari, will you marry me?" He asked.

My heart was jumping with joy. I said yes and he put the ring in my finger.

As he was hugging me, I asked him: "Marrying me means I'll become your wife, right?"

He chuckled. "Yes. Didn't you know and you said yes?"

"If I had known, I'll answer the same."

"Thank you."

"Do you really wanna spend the rest of your life with me?" I asked, staring at the beautiful diamond ring in my finger.

"I do." He said and kissed me. Everything was perfect.

We might have been the talk of the town after the wedding that happened after a month since the engagement.

I know some people are saying bad things about us. I know I'm the cause for that and I suddenly worried it would affect Sungjae, but when I told him about this, he just told me: "I don't care what people say. They don't know you or me well enough to judge us. I love you and you love me. That's what matters."

He smiled and gave me a peck on the lips. "Do you understand?"

"Yes."

"I love you."

"I love you, too."

He held my hand as we sat in the couch. I'm still in my wedding dress and so he is. "What do you want to do for your birthday next week?"

"I wanna spend it with you."

He laughed. "Oh come on, of course, I'll be here to spend it with you."

And then we kissed. I felt my cheeks burn hot because I've learnt what married couples should do after getting marriedㅡhoneymoon.

I'm not ready for it.

I pulled away shyly. "Let's sleep. You have to work tomorrow."

He grinned and shook my hair. "Silly. Are you shy?"
