Chapter 4, The Blossom of Love

I'm not sure what love is, but if it is really how it is according to the books I've readㅡI must be in love with Sungjae.

Nothing much has changed to our daily interaction, but he became a bit more shy towards me and his smiles were different from the ones he gave me back then. His smiles now hold more meaningㅡthey tell something more than a kind smile and it's making my heart flutter.

I think about him every ticking of the clock that he's not around, but when he's in front of me, I forget all the things I wanted to tell him.

During his day-offs, he stays at home with me. We read together quietly in the couch. I hold the book in my hands and he leans his head on my shoulder. Sometimes, we go outside and that's my favourite part. One time he brought me to a place full of people seated on their seats and there were also some acting on the stage. Sungjae told me it's a musical, where people act and sing at the same time.
It was a nice experience.

Sometimes, we would eat outside and he lets me try foods that are new to me.

I learnt from the books that kissing is a gesture people do when they like someone. I guess Sungjae likes me, but if you ask if he ever kissed me againㅡthe answer is no. I think he respects me, or he still thinks he's taking advantage of me.

But he's notㅡbecause if you'd ask me, I like him a lot and I've never been this happy before.

"Mari-ah, don't you want to try and go to school?" He asked me one time while we were taking a walk in the park.

"School? I'm eighteen... can I still go at this age?"

"I think you'll have to take special lessons."

"Special lessons?"

He nodded. "Someone should teach you everything from the basics until you can do what suits your age."

"Ah..." I said. "I could try."

He smiled and shook my hair. "Really? That's my girl."

Somehow, that made me so happy.

Sungjae's chin was in the palm of his hands while he was watching me prepare dinner.

"Mari-ah," He called. "Do you know when's your birthday?" He asked.

"Birthday?" I repeated and looked at the calendar. "Yes," I replied. "My mom always celebrated it. She told me it's the happiest day of her life."

He smiled. "Was your mom good to you?"

I nodded. "She was my savior." I said. "And so are you."

His smile widened. "Come here." He said.

Curiously, I went to sit in front of him.
And then he leaned in and kissed my forehead. "Thank you for coming into my life." He said and rested his arms on my shoulders as he caressed my hair.

"But, I'm more thankful you came into my life. You're the biggest blessing I could ever have, Sungjae."

"Aye~" He said, pulling away. "You're making my heart flutter! I might kiss you again if you keep doing that." And then he laughed, his ears were getting red.

I smiled and kissed him quickly on the lips. "There you go." I said and got up to continue cooking.

"Yah! That's unfair!" He said once he recovered.

"Why?"

"It was stolen!"

"Pfft."

"Hong Mari, I didn't know you're like this!"

"What?"

And then he's behind me. He hugged me from the back and laid his chin on my shoulder. "Mari-ah," He called.

"Yes?"

"I really like you."

My heart skipped a beat. I didn't expect him to say that since he's been very careful of showing his feelings.

I smiled and flipped the omellette carefully. "Me too. I like you."

He giggled and kissed my cheek.

"I'm sorry we keep having omellette. Maybe you should cook sometime." I told him.

He chuckled  and hugged me a bit tighter. "I can eat the omellette you prepare forever."

I must have been too happy lately because that very night, I had a nightmare. I woke up squirming, sweating and then screaming. Sungjae rushed to my room.

"What's wrong, Mari-ah?"

As soon as he asked, I couldn't help but cry. "I dreamed of him. I-I dreamed he's out of jail and he's coming for me and h-he will hurt both of us."

Sungjae hugged me and tried to calm me down. "It's just a nightmare. I would never let that happen again." He said and kissed my forehead and then he wiped my tears away.

"I-it f-felt so real." I said with a sob.

He hugged me again and caressed my hair. "It's only a bad dream. As long as I'm here, I'll protect you. I promise."

He tucked me in the blanket and he was about to leave but I took his hand. "Please don't leave me."

His eyes softened and then he smiled reassuringly. "Alright. I won't leave. Sleep tight." He whispered.

He laid down beside me. He held my hand and hummed a song I didn't know until I fell asleepㅡand I've never felt so safe like this before.

A/N

I asked myself why I write so much Sungjae fanfics lol but to tell everyone the truth, I'm not even being biased. He's not my bias in BTOB but when a story forms in my head, he always fits in the role. I could totally imagine him being like this and that or whatever. XD I try so hard not to make Sungjae the main character of all my fanfics!

Maybe it's because I've watched him act a lot more than the other members. I cannot imagine Eunkwang being a bad boy, or Hyunsik being the carefree one with girls. I feel like Eunkwang should always be the nice one and Hyunsik the quiet/cold one (this is just an example). So yeah, i dont know why im even telling everyone this lol. I just thought I should share my dilemma when choosing main character among BTOB members for my stories. ~~ ^^
