Chapter 23, The Final Goodbye

Mari:

When I woke up, the sun was already up. It was bright outside. Sungjae was still sleeping. I rubbed my eyelids, kissed his forehead and smiled to myself before I got up to take a shower.

"Gosh!" Sungjae exclaimed once I was out of the bathroom. His hair was sticking up to different places. His face was a mess.

"Well, good morning. What's the matter?" I asked, tying my bathrobe.

"Good morning!" He said way too energetically. "It's just that I planned to wake up earlier so I could see the sunrise with you. I even got this room for it."

I sat beside him and cupped his cheeks. "It's alright. We'll see the sunset instead."

"I'm sorry." He replied, pouting.

I gave him a peck. "Nothing to be sorry about. Now, take a shower and we'll get some brunch."

Finally, he smiled. "Alright."

After we were both ready to go, we finally got to have some 'world class' breakfast of the hotel. There were way too many food for two people in the morning.

"Where are we going today?" I asked.

"We'll sail."

I gasped. "We'll ride a boat?"

He smiled and nodded. "Yes! We're going to Tokyo. We'll take the Shinkansen."

Sungjae explained to me what a Shinkansen is. Apparently, it is a high speed train lines that connected most of the country's major cities.

He said we're off to see the best cherry blossoms of spring.

And then he changed his mind after looking on his phone.

"Why?" I asked.

"It takes eight to nine hours." He simply replied and we both mutually understood that we can't afford to spend those hours travelling.

"We stay here. I'm sure there are cherry blossoms somewhere." I said with a reassuring smile.

"I'm sorry."

"Stop saying that. It's not your fault."

Everytime he says he's sorry, I feel more sorry for both of us.

Our next destination was called Nakajima Park. Sungjae and I prepared food in a picnic basket. He bought a fishing rod and some baits.

We took the subway to get there and got off after three stops. Namjoo was the one who sends Sungjae information about the places as if she was also here with us.

When we reached the park, I wondered how many times does Japan has to take my breath away? Everything I saw till now is beautiful.

The park is covered by cherry blossom trees in pink and white. Just what we came for. We walked hand in hand. Sungjae and I took each other's pictures and then together. Later on, he asked someone to take a picture of us.

Looking far ahead, I could see the tall buildings of Sapporo from where I stand. They were more mesmerizing at night time.

During daylight, however, this park is more perfect. Everywhere else in the place is green, pink, white and brown.

We set our picnic near the pond and then we ate again. We got lighter food like fruits and sandwiches only.

And then we layed down the grass together. It was so refreshing.
