Chapter 7, Broken Promise

I woke up in the morning with a smile on my face and Sungjae's still beside me. He was smiling too. He softly caressed my hair.

"Good morning, wifey." He said brightly and pulled me closer.

"Morning." I mumbled through the pillow.

There is nothing better than waking up next to him, to see his face first thing in the morning and know it will always be like that.

"And why didn't you go to work?" I asked, hugging him.

"I don't want you to wake up and I'm not there."

"Ugh," I groaned, burying my face in his arm. "I love you. I love you."

He laughed and shook my hair. "I love you more and more and more."

"Not fair."

"Fair enough."

"Thank you for making me so happy. A year ago, I wouldn't have imagined my life would turn out like this."

"You're the one who changed my life. You just have no idea."

"Fine. We changed each other's lives."

"Fair enough."

And even though Sungjae said he had to work overnight, he still came anyway though it's really late. I just woke up by his kisses and though we made love every night after that night, it's just as memorable and sweet as the very first time.

I guess this is what it's like to be a newly-wed couple described in the books. We're too head over heels for each other. It was crazy. I don't think I'll ever love someone else as much as I love him.

And on my birthday, Sungjae told me he couldn't be with me during the day but we'll celebrate it at night. He told me he'll buy the cake, so I cooked a huge meal for both of us. I cleaned the house, took a bath and dressed up.

When I heard the knock on the door, I ran too excitedly that I forgot the fact that Sungjae didn't knock. Only when I unlocked the door did I realize that and it was too late.

The door slammed open and I was horrified by the person standing in front of me.

"W-w-why..."

"My daughter." He said. "Have you been well?"

"H-h-how..."

I let out a scream when he hit me hard on the face and all the things he did to me came back all at once in my head. "Let me remind you what you were once." He said and stepped inside the house that has been my safe haven all this time.

He pushed me down and I fell to the ground. My whole body trembled in fear.

"I heard you got married?" He said and slapped me hard again. "You don't have the right to be happy while I was rotting in jail!"

"S-s-stop, please..."

He was gonna blow another slap when a hand grabbed his arm. "Don't you dare touch her again."

My father smirked and it was so frightening. He flinched and faced Sungjae who was standing firmly on his place. "And don't you dare touch me again, kid. Did you take my daughter so you could marry her? What? You want her body? You should've gotten a girl with no ugly scarsㅡ" He was cut off when Sungjae punched him right in the face. "Son of a b*tch!"

My father, then, went to attack.

I crawled to the living room where the telephone is and dialed the police.
