September 12th, 1950

London, England

The carpet was green and his breath smelt of coffee, and reeking of cigarettes. Dan hated cigarettes.

"Early Saturday, Mr. Howell, March 18th of the year 1946, where were you that morning?" he asked him, and Dan shifted in his seat. He didn't respond, having to reach deep into his brain to try and think. Dan watched the end of his cigarette burn out and he tapped it onto the ash tray. His brain raced of exactly what happened, but he spoke not a word.

"Mr. Howell?" he asked again and Dan blinked.

"I-I cannot recall," Dan responded and Burkin looked up.

"You cannot recall?" Burkin asked and Dan shook his head. Burkin nodded, knowing it wasn't the truth and he walked across the room.

"Does the name Phil Lester ring a bell?"

His heart jumped.

"No,"

Lies.

"Was it true Mr. Howell that you and Mr. Lester had an affair with one another?" Burkin asked and Dan stared off into space.

"Mr. Howell?"

"Mr. Howell?"

"Mr. Howell?" Dan snapped out of it and looked up at his professor. "Please, pay attention." He told him, moving back to the front of the room, rambling on about maths.

Dan yawned, his hand covering his mouth.

"Pst! Dan," Chris whispered and Dan looked to his right. Chris handed him a note and Dan looked confused, unfolding the piece of paper and reading over the scribbled words.

'Looks as if Katy fancies you, she's been staring at you all afternoon'

Dan mentally scrunched his nose, but turned to his friends anyways and laughed, winking cheekily.

There was a tap on his shoulder to his left and he turned. He was met with the blue eyes he dreams of each night.

"I've got a test coming up in Chemisty, would you mind helping me study after class?" Phil asked him and Dan nodded eagerly.

Class let out only moments later, and the two boys made their way to Phil's dorm room.

Their lips touched and hands were frantic. Dan breathed to the rhythm of the bed hitting the wall behind them.

Bang.

Bang.

Bang.

Burkin hit the table once more and Dan's breath hitched.

"March 18th, 1946! Where were you!?" Burkin yelled. Dan blinked.

Silence.

Dan sat up a bit more, and looked up at Burkin.

"Are you paying attention?"
