October 25th, 1941

Manchester, England

Phil stood up from his position on the floor and he dusted his pants off. A cigarette hung from his lip and he puffed in and out. He looked down at his project for his chemistry class and nodded, thinking it was good enough.

"What do you think Dan?" Phil asked the younger boy on the bed. He looked up and noticed Dan's staring. "Dan?" Phil spoke again and Dan snapped out of his trance.

"S'good, Phil." Dan had barely looked at the project and Phil smiled, pulling the cigarette from his mouth and pushing it into the ash tray, killing the bud.

"Thank you," Phil smiled, going over to the bed. He sat down next to his best friend and studied his poster from there.

"Who was that girl you were with earlier in the garden?" Dan asked Phil and Phil looked over at him.

"Susan Gooling," Phil answered and Dan felt his heart hurt a bit.

It was silent for a while between the friends and all Phil wanted to do was kiss Dan. His thoughts had been going mad ever since he met Dan and it hurt him. But homosexuals were to be punished and he didn't want his secret to get out.

"Do you fancy her?" Dan asked and Phil almost laughed.

"No, I don't." Phil smiled and Dan nodded, smiling a bit to himself.

"Oh, okay."

Silence.

"So, who do you fancy?" Dan asked and Phil looked over at him. His brown eyes locked onto Phil's blue ones and Phil leaned in, his lips brushing over Dan's before he properly kissed him.

Fuck it, he thought.

"You."
