chapter 5
As I sat there staring out of the window at a tree, hoping, praying for an escape, I couldn't help noticing that my father hadn't once mentioned Xavier and his presence -or lack of- in his tiresomely long lecture. A lecture that probably made more sense to the tree than me. I glanced back into the room and at my father to see his glasses twirling around in his hand, clearly a gesture that was supposed to aid me in my understanding of what the heck he was going on about. But, unfortunately, the moment he said 'duties' I was lost and the fact that the annoying prince wasn't here to listen and then share in English later didn't exactly help me. It was only a matter of seconds before he would look to me for some input and when I am unable, hopefully he will turn to Xavier and realise that he's missing from this glorious meeting to discuss our future duties as king and queen.
I sighed as I shifted in my seat trying to get in a comfy position for what was to come, either screaming or a very bored me. The room didn't exactly help either, there was nothing to keep me occupied or entertained. It was just a dimly lit wooded box room, though ornately decorated there wasn't anything interesting to look at or read, my only escape the window and its daydreaming potential.
As I rode my unicorn through a daisy valley I could hear the faint echoing's of my father's words, back in the real world.
"When you become queen there will be no frolicking about, you'll be looked to by everyone and will therefore be a major role model, high standards will be set for you, ones you need to start living up to now."
As I made it to the fresh water spring I slid of merico's shiny silver back and led her to have a drink.
"You will have to attend appointments and meetings, and be on time. Speaking of which, you missed yours today."
I patted her silk fur and went for a wander through the tall grass my fingers spread wide letting the grass fall through them. I was lost in my own world when I bumped into something. Startled I looked up to see a boy with shining russet eyes staring into my own.
"Adonnia!"
I was pulled away from the boy and as much as I tried to hang on I once again found myself sitting on a rock, staring at what seemed to be a very angry king. It was clear that he had chosen the second option. To scream or more fittingly, roar.
"Adonnia! Are you listening to me?"
If I was listening he wouldn't be screaming at me. "yep." I lied.
"Oh were you, then what was I saying?" He sneered.
"You were talking about my future duties father." I gave a small smile, the picture of innocence.
"No!" he roared. "I was asking of your whereabouts this morning, the time when you and Xavier should have been here."
Potato, patato. Same difference.
"I was out and you knew I was."
"I beg your pardon, how dare you lay the blame down for me. It is your meeting not mine."
"Yeh, one I don't want to be at." I mumbled. "No one is to blame here dad, I went out, you knew I was going out so therefore the meeting wasn't going to be on, end of story." I was very proud of myself to say the least, not once had I raised my voice, though inevitably it was going to happen.
Stubbornly he did not except the 'end of story' full stop I put to the conversation and instead continued to argue. "Well you shouldn't have been going out in the first place you and Xavier both know you have duties to attend to so should have been here.
And I cracked.
"Xavier you say? Well where is he now? Where is the golden boy you love so much, the child you wished you had? You managed to call me in here so where is he?" I shouted my tone rising in pitch as I went through my sentences.
"Adonnia do not speak in such tones with me, you are the heir to throne not him. The duties? They lay on your back not his. However, I will be speaking with him later about his absence." It was so true of my parents to not deny the fact that they loved their future son in law more than their own daughter and skim over the subject like I hadn't said a word. Even when it was so blatantly put to them nothing was said in the way of confirmation or denial.
I sighed. "But what about my life, when do I get to have one, even a shopping trip is guarded by body guards and Xavier. Why can't I do what I want, go where I want, just once." I whispered, the slight glistening of tears in my eyes. And though I hated the prince, this time I found myself defending him. "The only reason Xavier even missed the meeting was because you ordered him out with me." I was now shouting again the tears threatening to spill, flowing with anger and annoyance.
It was my father's turn to sigh, "You both should have been here regardless of the circumstances and that is the end of the story!" He mocked me from before. Then he proceeded to say what I knew was coming. "Ruling is your life Adonnia living is just a pastime."
Before the tears brimmed over, I left the room.
dont forget to vomment!!!!
