Chapter 9

We stepped through the palace door, our muddy feet squeaking against the polished floor, our bodies dripping mud and slime.

“It’s going to take ages to get this mud out of my hair.” I whined to the mud covered boy next to me.

“It’s your own fault, you pushed me in the mud in the first place.” He replied.

“Well you covered me in leaves and made me look like a chicken.” I pouted.

“I think you’ll find chickens have feathers.” He looked at me as if I was dumb.

I narrowed my eyes at him. “Don’t backsass me you arrogant player.”

He put on a face of mock shock. “Hey don’t bring my looks into this, just because I can get all the ladies…”he trailed off.

I rolled my eyes. “I’m surprised you aren’t floating up towards the ceiling with the size of that head of yours.”

This time he mocked hurt. “My head is not big. How could you be so cruel to me.”

I snorted. “Oh get over yourself.”

“Well actually I’m perfectly comfortable but you could get under…….” His rude comment and our bickering was interrupted by a high snobby squeal that I knew all too well.

“Adonnia! Xavier!” she scolded. Well at least we were both in trouble this time.

“What in the world have you been doing?” She demanded to know, a disgusted look written all over her face.

I gave a nervous laugh. “Aha see that’s a funny story……...” I trailed of not knowing how to reply. I nudged Xavier.

“U-umm…” he stuttered, scratching his head nervously. “Well you see a racoon flew in…….A-and it knocked us in the mud……?” Was his genius reply.

“I beg your pardon.” My mother scolded, fire in her eyes. Uh oh, not a good sign.

“Nothing mother, we will go get and get cleaned up now.” I quickly said pushing Xavier towards the . I grabbed his hand and yanked him up with me.

“Don’t forget dinner tonight. The both of you.” She squealed up the stairs.

When we were finally away from my mother’s death glare I turned to Xavier with my own.

“What the hell was that?”

He looked at me sheepishly. “Sorry, I panicked. You put the pressure on me.”

“And that’s what u came up with? Wow, just wow.” I said as I briskly marched off towards my ensuite.

I entered the large room and started to strip of my dirty top. I heard someone clear their throat behind me. I spun round to see Xavier casually leaning against my cabinet, a smirk plastered on his face. My cheeks flushed a deep scarlet but I covered it by throwing my hands up in annoyance.

“What the hell is your problem? GET OUT!” I screeched, chucking my damp and dirty top at him. It was lucky that I had a vest on underneath.

He just chuckled, and without saying anything, walked over to my giant walk in shower and turned it on.

“What are you doing?” I asked warily, this boy was strange.

He rolled his eyes. “Chill Addybaby, we’ve still got clothes on, just come here.”

“No.” I pouted, being the stubborn child I was.

He stalked towards me, me taking a cautious step back, but before I had chance to run he had lifted me up and was walking back to the shower. He walked us both in there and dumped me under the freezing water that was yet to warm up. I squealed.

“Xavier its freezing.” I shouted.

He rolled his eyes. Again. “Jeez stop being such a baby Addy it will warm up in a second.”

“You try being the one stood under it, jerk.” I muttered and if he heard me he just ignored me.

I watched as the dirt from our clothes mingled with the water and spun down the drain. I shuddered at the thought of that once being on me.

Xavier’s voice brought me out of my daze.

“Hey, Addy, look this way.”

I furrowed my brow, confused, and looked his way. He had a whole hand full of soapy suds and before I knew it he had wiped it all over my face. He burst out laughing.

“You look like santie clause.” He yelled like an immature little kid.

I grabbed the soap from his hand without him even noticing because he was too busy laughing and lathered up my own hand. I then wiped it down his chin.

“And you look like a goat with a goatee.” I said sticking my tongue out at his face.

“Oh how rude.” He mocked hurt and launched more soapy suds my way.

I squealed and threw some back.

And there began our 3rd war of the day.

After we had soaped ourselves out, our clothes practically clean, Xavier ordered me to turn around and started lathering up my hair with shampoo.

“What are doing?”

He spun my head around and gave be the ‘duh’ expression before answering. “I’m washing your hair, clearly.”

“oh.” Was all I replied. This boy was weird, one minute he would be annoying as the next donkey on the block then he would be all sweet and caring. Shiz, he must be bipolar! Wow!

Once he was done I turned back around. “Thanks.” I said giving him a smile, he smiled a genuine grin before the cocky grin I knew all too well returned. Definitely bipolar.

“By the way your shirt has turned see-through.” He smirked before waltzing out of my bathroom.

I gasped looking down sure enough to see that the white of my vest had gone see-through. Double shiz. I face palmed at my stupidest.
