As Long As We're Together

Caitlin was taking care of a young patient when she was paged to take emergency care of a patient who had just been taken in after a car accident. She called for a nurse to finish treating the young boy and made her way to the reception. Her heart stopped when she saw the patient. It was Barry. She ran towards the paramedics and quickly asked what had happened.

"Car accident, doctor Snow," one informed. He listed all of his vitals but she couldn't hear a thing. They put him in a medical bay when the paramedic asked: "What's wrong, doctor Snow?" when he saw her crying.

"He... he's my fiance," she replied shakily, her hand going to her engagement ring . Tears were trickling down her face as she spoke.

"We need a different doctor to handle this," the paramedic said, trying to pull Caitlin out of the room. Then the heart monitor stopped and all the doctors rushed to try to save him. Meanwhile, Caitlin broke down and when they pronounced him dead, she fell to the floor in despair and cried and cried and cried...

Caitlin woke with a start, she could feel the tears streaming down her face. Then Barry sat up and comforted her. 

"Shhh, it was just a dream,"

"It felt so real," she choked.

"What happened?" he asked.

"I was at work and then I was paged to go to a patient that had just been involved in a car accident. You were the patient, you died," she cried.

"Shhh, I'm here. We're together, I'm not going anywhere, I promise,"

For a while, she cried into him and he held her and comforted her, stroking her hair and kissing her head, until she fell asleep, keeping each other close. She was worried that if she let go then he'd fade away completely. She couldn't let that dream come true...
