Susannah Gonzales

She skipped the rest of her classes and simply headed to her house, but never to her home. Home is where the heart is, but there, you won't find any. She lived in the shady part of town. Broken glass littered the streets and most windows were boarded. She made her way into the house and was greeted by broken beer bottles and distant yells from the kitchen. A normal day.

Her mother came out from the shadows of the kitchen and glowered at Susannah. She didn't say a word; just glared, the tan skin on her face shouting her Hispanic heritage. Susannah turned on her heel and headed back out the door. Another night in the frigid air. It wasn't exactly a surprise for Susannah anymore. She'd go to the house and some nights her mother was fine. Other nights, though, she glowered at Susannah, and if looks could kill she would've been dead long ago.

Susannah wasn't stupid. She'd had a place to stay when she got kicked out for a while. It wasn't much; just a small abandoned house down the street. Well, it wasn't exactly abandoned. The place was practically drug deal central but it was usually only occupied about once a week. She walked to into the house, staring at the shoes dangling from the power lines before the house as she entered.

Bullets had obviously cascaded down the walls before, but nothing had ever happened while she was there. She took out the blanket she had stored under the broken floorboards and walked up the stairs, up the ladder, and into the attic. Susannah was fairly certain no one had even known there was an attic, as the walls of it were the only ones in the house not littered with bullet holes.

She looked out the cracks of the boarded up window and saw people lingering outside. Hoods up, dressed in all black, with little baggies of God-knows what sitting in their palms. She knew there were going to be gunshots before they even rang through the air. But as chaos erupted all around her, she fell asleep.

Anyways, I'll try to get some updates done over Winter break and I'll have them up for you as soon as possible. I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah/Chanukah, or Happy Kwanzaa!
