Chapter 4

Payton's POV

I waited at my locker for Luke. He wants to see me before I go to detention. Probably to make sure I don't rip Alex's head off. I can't believe I got detention with her!

"Hey." Luke said walking towards me putting on his backpack.

"Hi." I said when he was in front of me. "I was just thinking about how I'm gonna kill Alex."

"I know you're pissed but try and make it through the day without any bruises." He said and I laughed. Not gonna happen. "Promise me." He said and ran his fingers through his hair.

"Fine." I give in because Luke is impossible to say no to.

We have been hanging out all day. Michael was with Alex and hadn't said a word to me. He wasn't even the one to tell me their dating.

"Well I gotta go. I will see you after detention." Luke said before pecking my cheek and leaving. That was strange.

I get myself together and walk to detention. I took a deep breath before walking throught the door. Alex was sitting in the front row so I sat myself in the back. There was no teacher which was normal. A couple regulars came in and then detention started. The regulars are the people who are always in detention, most were druggies.

I read my book in quiet. I began thinking of me and Luke. We have gotten a lot closer since school started. He's always calming me down. He's a great friend. Alright that's it I'm bored as hell. Time to shake things up a bit. I'm sorry Lukey.

I walk up to the front and slide my hand across Alex's desk making all her stuff fall to the ground.

"What the hell?!" She screamed. She slammed her hands on the desk and stood up.

"Oops." I said and put my hand over my mouth dramatically.

"I'm sick of your bullshit Payton! It's not my fault Michael picked me over you! Just get over your little crush already!" She screamed.

I was pissed. She did not just say that. I lost control of my anger and the nex thing I knew my hand turned into a fist and it raised ready to hit Alex. It was caught mid air and I turned around to see who stopped me. It was one of the regulars.

"The teacher will be here in thirty seconds to dismiss us. Unless you want to have detention for the rest of the year, I suggest you sit your asses down and act like you're doing something." She explained and I went to my seat. Alex scrambled  to pick up her stuff. It made me smirk.

Like it was on que the teacher walked in the room and said we all could leave but we needed to sign out on our way out. We did so and I walked out of the school and searched for Luke's car. Michael would of usually picked me up but he was probably picking up Alex. Whipped mofo.

"So, you gonna finish what you started." An unpleasant voice said behind me. I didn't turn around and kept looking around.

"You are just lucky I got stopped the first time hun."

"You can't lay a finger on me." She said and I spun around to face her.

"Like hell I can't."

"Well if you do Michael will never forgive you. He'll turn against you."

"Oh how sweet. You think you're more important to him. Hun, when it comes down to it you are just a girl. I'm family."

I hear someone clear their throat behind me and I slowly turn on my heel.

"Alex lets go. Payton I will come over later. We need to talk." Michael said and grabbed Alex's hand and walked to the car. Awhile after they left Luke finally showed up. I didnt hesitate to get in the front seat. All I wanted right now was my bed.

"Michael texted me." Luke said as we pull out of the school parking lot.

"Oh really?" I ask. Of course Michael called him.

"Pay you promised." He said. Was he actually upset with me?

"It's no biggy." I said casually and turned on the radio but Luke turned it off right away.

"Yes, it is a biggy. You aren't like this. You're being a huge," He paused for a moment, "You're being a huge bitch."

Oh I see how it is. All my fault right? He was the one who was on my side. The one who calmed me down and told me it wasn't worth it. What the hell. I didn't say anything else the entire car ride. Silence was my best weapon at this moment. I just looked out the window. Today has been a long day. Finally we pulled into my driveway. I began getting out but Luke grabbed my arm and stopped me.

"I'm sorry Payton. I didn't mean it. You aren't a bitch but you are being rude. It just is you." He said with a sympathetic look.

"Being rude was the intension Luke. I thought out of everyone you would understand. But I guess not." I said and walked out of the car. You might think I was being rude but I just have little trust in guys. It's a long story and we'll get to that later but I try opening up to Luke and then I get insecure when I get the smallest hint he might leave.

I walked inside and said hi to my mom quickly and then ran upstairs. When I got in my room Michael was already sitting on my bed waiting for me. He looked up from his hands and looked at me with.. Anger?

"We need to talk." He said.

"Then talk." I reply letting my tired show.

"The way you treated Alex today was unexceptable. Its not you. I love ya and all but you have no right treating her like that. She doesn't deserve that."

"Oh wow. What is up with people saying I'm not acting like myself. Just because I don't like this girl doesn't mean I'm any less myself. And how many times did you actually talk to me today?" I said.

"You're right I have been a litte distracted with Alex and  I should have been the one to told you about us. But Pay, I really really like her." He said and made me feel bad. Damn him.

"I'm sorry Mikey. I know you like her. And I guess I just can't stand the thought of being replaced." I said and sat by him on my bed.

"You could never be replaced. You are my best friend. That will never change." He said and put his arm around my shoulders.

"I know. And even though your girlfriend might  not like it, could you stay here tonight? You can even sleep on the floor." We laughed and he nodded before hugging me.

"Stop being so mushy!" I whined to Michael enlighting the mood.

"Oh shucks, you got me in tears." He said dramatically and began fake crying.

"You're such a freak." I said as I throw a pillow in his face.

The rest of the night we laid in bed and watched Disney. We had a bit of small talk but he avoided anything Alex related which I appreciated.

"So, are you and Luke together yet?" He asks. I turn to him and he covers his mouth.

"Yet? Mikey do you know something.?" I ask and sit up crisscrossed.

"Shit. I  wasn't supposed to say anything." He said and I gave him my you-better-tell-me-right-now look. Michael knows all my looks and he got the hint. "Luke said he was planning on asking you out on a date." He said really fast. I smiled and blushed which like I said was a bit new for me.

"Are you blushing?" Michael asked with a huge dorky smile.

"No." I said and pushed him off the bed onto the floor. Instead of getting back up he made himself comfortable. We talking each other to sleep.

It was good to have my bestie back.
