Christmas music plays on the radio as I wind slow up to round a corner. The past three hours have been nothing but twists and turns and winding around the hill side. Snow covers the once green Forrest ground. My phone starts to ring, thank God I connected my phone to blue tooth before I left the city. The snow is blowing harder here than in town.
"Elle, are you on your way or what? Mom just flew in we are going to get her tonight. Where are you?" "Jesus Chris. Just chill, I'm climbing hills at the moment, I don't know if I'll get there by dark I may have to find a cottage to stay for the night. The snow is falling hard and relentless. I have no idea where I am! This is the frikken mountains for God sake." I reply angered. "Well I'm sorry Elle." "Sorry? Couldn't you have moved closer to town? Jeez!" "I'm sorry but Britney is the one who wanted to be out here, so I gave up city living." Chris chuckles. "Mhm. Well I'm going to get off here cause I can barely see the road and I don't want to hit a moose or something." I shake my head. "Okay, just let me know if you decide a cottage. " Chris's voice crackles. "I'll try I'm losing ser-" the phone cuts out.
"Shit!" I slam my hand on the steering wheel. I twist around a large wind In The road. The road is a straight shot from here, unsurprisingly I have to turn onto a back road. Thanks Chris. More climbing.
I put my foot on the gas a little harder. I don't know how much more my little Nissan can take from all this hill climbing. Then again I should've have spoke.
My car starts to slow as I push harder on the gas. I check my gauges. Full tank of gas still, and no emergency lights are on. My car comes to a stop. The radio turns off, the heat turns off. My car is dead.
"Damn it!" I scream. I grab my phone and dial my brother. No service lights up the screen as the call rejects. I throw my phone to the passenger seat.
"Fuck me. Fuck this snow! Fuck you Chris. " I bang my fist on the steering wheel violently.
I grab my coat from the back seat. It's back with fur around the good. I slip it on over my thin beige turtle neck. "Not the best time to wear ripped pants." I scold myself as I look down at the light blue jeans that have thinning in them. "Thank you Walmart."
I lay my head on the steering wheel. I'm going to die, nobody even comes down this road probably. If they do, by that time I'll be froze to death and have black fingers, my face will be iced to this very wheel.
I gather my thoughts and pull the keys out of the ignition. I pop the trunk and grab my survival back back. I'm a city girl, I have no idea how to start a fire or any of that. But I watched naked and afraid. So Glenn, and Tresa if I die this is on you!
I throw the back pack over my shoulder, and slam the trunk. I walk through the snow to the passenger side and grab my phone turning it off no good if there's no service. At least I'm wearing boots.
I look down at my light brown boots with cotton around the tops. I pull the mittens from my pocket of my jacket and slip them on my hands. The wind whips through my hair kissing my nose, frosting it to a bright red.
I walk into the Forrest to try and escape the winds. Good idea, the wind died down but the snow still falls.
