Another knock sounded. We both were silent until we heard the voice that came with the knock.
"Mama? Is that you?" It was Julia. She was knocking on the door.
This was actually kind of good news. We didn't have fear for our lives anymore. Which was kinda nice since I had almost died in the Cinnamon Wind.
We decided to mess with Julia because she is our friend and we can. Whenever she calls us on our phones or can't see who we are, she'll say that Eva sounds like her mom. So we used this to our advantage. I smiled and wiggled my eyebrows at Eva. She smiled back and stifled a laughing fit.
"Hi sweetie," she said in her 'mama' voice. She was silently fighting the laughter.
"Mom, are you okay?" Julia asked skeptically.
"Nooo, I have the stomach fluuuu!" She howled. It took all of my willpower not to openly cackle like a hyena.
"Oh! Are you alright mom?" Julia was audibly concerned now. I stuffed caramel from my jacket in my mouth to avoid laughing loudly.
"I think I did something wrong with the fooooood!" She was laughing so hard that she was silent. So was I.
"Oh my gators! Mom lemme in!" Julia tugged on the doorknob so hard that I thought it was going to break.
"NOOOO JUUUULIEEEEE!" Eva howled. Julia broke in and her face of 'wut da' was priceless. Eva and I had tears running down our faces as we rolled around on our backs, laughing harder than we ever had in our lives. If laughing is really the best medicine, then shoot, IMMA BE IMMORTAL!
"What are you doing in here?" Julia demanded. I took Eva and I a few minutes to get composed. Once we did, I spoke up first.
"Cinnamon. Outside. Dead. Almost." I had a few extra giggles inside me, so Eva took over.
"That's why Alex's nose is bleeding."
"What? Still?" I instantly stopped laughing and looked in the mirror. And lo and behold, my nose had one torrent of red still. Oh, happy day.
"Well, that explains a lot," Julia said, "but not how you got in."
"The door was open." Eva stated.
"What?" Julia exclaimed. I couldn't see her face but I figured that she had a weird face on.
While I was washing my face, the cinnamon and blood from my face mixed into a maroon color. It reminded me of something. I just didn't remember what.
"So, what were you doing out in this storm?" Eva asked Julia.
"Well, I just kinda thought I'd go shopping at the outlets." Julia said.
"And then the storm appeared, huh?"
"Yeah," Julia said. Then her faced brightened up like she just remembered something. "Oh, Eva, I saw this book tha-"
A light turned on in my brain. "HOLY MOTHER OF SOUR PATCH BRATS THAT'S IT!"
