That was on Monday. It was now Friday, and what a week it had been. Not as in crazy stuff happening. Nothing interesting happened all week. But I was so paranoid all week and I couldn't get the experience out of my head. It was only a matter of time before it happened again.
I did my best to try and stay away from gummy bears and sour patch kids. after both incidents, I wanted nothing to do with them. I didn't even want to get near them. And plus, how was I supposed to ignore an event like that. I mean, two candy attacks in one day? Well, technically, the gummy bear thing was my fault, but it still bit me.
Alright, back to the present. The day at school went by normal enough. It was just like old times. I hung out with my friends and we did what we normally do. This included annoying my teachers and my fellow classmates. However, the more time that went by, the more paranoid I got. It was like it was increasing by the second.
After school, I went home. Still, nothing happened. Life was still normal for me. I texted my friends, played some games on my phone, and read a book. All of the normal things that would happen on normal days.
But that night, I couldn't sleep. My paranoia had gotten too strong. I was worried that something was going to happen while I was asleep. I felt like something bad was going to happen.
I laid awake for a lot of the night. I did manage to go to sleep, however. Not too long later, a strange sound woke me up. It was a really weird sound. It sounded like something was gradually splitting stone. I got up and looked around. I tried to convince myself that it was just my paranoia getting to me. That it was just my imagination. the stuff on the walls told me otherwise.
Growing on my walls at an alarmingly fast rate was what looked like a giant web. It was dark, so I couldn't see its color. It appeared likely for it to be a more rich color, like blue or red, than a lighter color, like yellow or orange. I got a little closer to the web. it was growing like a weed now, reaching its tendrils all over my room like ivy. I got close enough to it to smell it, and once I did, childhood memories of enjoying it flooded back.
"Red vines?" I asked in disbelief. those had been one of my favorite candies while I was a little kid. The red vines now covered my walls and they were starting to spread out on the ceiling. They began to dangle like moss from a tree branch. I didn't like the way that they were growing in my direction.
I laid down flat against the floor to stay out of the reach of the candy and made my way to the door. I turned around to see that the door was grown over with a virtually solid wall of red vines. I began to panic. My window was where's hey came from. I couldn't leave from there. I didn't want to corner myself in my closet. The vines were just barely getting to that wall because it was on the complete opposite side of the window from which they came.
Without knowing it, I had backed myself into a wall. The vines were fast and they wrapped themselves around my throat and hands. The ones around my throat began to tighten. I began to struggle to breathe.
So that's it, I thought, This I how I end. I gotta say, the candy was smart. It new that strangling someone would be quicker and easier that any other more violent types of murder.
My will to live was too strong to just let myself go like that. Black spots began to form in my vision. I groped around with my foot until I cut it on something sharp. With my toes, I moved it under my hand where I was able to cut the vine that was holding my hand. The vines recoiled at the touch from the sharp object. It freed my hand. I then did the same with the vines near my throat, frantically stabbing at them until they let go. I gasped for air. I then stabbed at the vines holding my other hand with what was apparently a piece of a broken box cutter.
The vines retreated out of my window and disappeared. Well, I thought to myself, that's the last time I ever eat a red vine. It's at that point that I realized I wasn't safe anymore. Neither was my town. That night signaled the beginning of the Candy Apocalypse.
And I was right in the middle of it.
