I sat there with Layla and Julia, wondering what the plan should be. I was scared that Eva would be stuck here because she couldn't leave the car. Meanwhile, she is getting barraged by falling fudge. I was thinking maybe we could walk under all of the awnings and overhangs, but we would still have to get Eva out of the car.
Layla then got an idea. She looked at the metal can and a flash of hope flew across her face. "Were there any trash cans where you found this?" She asked Julia. She nodded.
"What kind were they?"
"The regular kind." Layla sighed.
"No, I meant, do they have the metal lids?"
"Yes they do, why?"
"Because I have a plan."
I grinned. "Famous last words."
Next thing I knew, I was running to the alleyway to the trash cans. We each had to find lids that didn't have fudge on them. I just couldn't seem to find any. All of them had fudge that might drop onto me or that might burn my hand if I gripped it the wrong way. I finally found one and went back to my friends. Just as we were about to run out of the alley, a little bunny hopped in front of us. It was actually a cute little bunny. It was dark brown with blue eyes. It also had a yellow ribbon around its neck, tied together into a bow that resembled a flower. It the middle of the flower was a purple m&m.
A purple m&m.
I looked closer at it. It didn't have fur. It was smooth with divots in it, made to look like fur. The eyes were made of colored chocolate. It just sat there, twitching its tiny nose. I looked at it, wanting to believe that it was cute.
As a child I loved Easter. But I was always that one child that didn't like to eat the chocolate bunnies. I always thought of them as "too cute to be eaten". Well, at least until I was older. Mainly because the quality of the art has degraded. But this was one of those classic chocolate bunnies. It was the one that I would be unable to eat. The little bunny twitches its nose and slowly moved in my direction. It then tried to hop towards me. I knew better than to let candy come near me. My whole squad jumped back away from the bunny. It stood up on its hind legs and sniffed the air. I then got an idea.
I lunged at the bunny. It scurried away into a toppled trash can, turning it vertical. Everyone looked into the can. The bunny was running in circles around the bottom. I reached into the can and got a hold of the little bunny. It struggled, but it didn't hurt me in any way. It looked back at me with wide blue eyes. I slowly started petting it. That seemed to calm it down. The others looked at me with disbelief. I proceeded to explain myself.
"I could never eat chocolate bunnies as a child. They were too cute." I had a feeling that this bunny could hear and understand me. I continued to pet it as the girls and I got under the overhangs.
The next thing we had to do was get Eva out of the car.
