A/N: if you didn't see the added part to the description, everyone is 16 instead of 10 :)

"And without further ado, let the tourney begin!" the mayor announced after his long speech. Ash smiled big, getting pumped for the upcoming battles from the tourney. Avi smiled and looked around, enjoying seeing so many trainers with their partners; it felt welcoming and soothing. "Now, I just have to make sure I put a stop to Legend..." she thought.

The big screen pulled up and all 204 trainers were put on screen and split into 68 groups.

"Here's how it will go: everyone is split into groups of 3. Each team will work together in triple battles to defeat as many groups as possible within the next few days! The top 10 will then move on to the next round, which will take place here on Friday afternoon. The top teams will be announced to the trainers via video call and will be asked to come Friday!"

"How will you keep track of the battles???" one kid asked.

The mayor held up a badge on a lanyard. "On this is a censor to a small drone that'll fly over and record the match! It will live stream it over to us and we'll keep tally. After 9pm, we will not count battles unless it started before the end time. Oh and one more rule... You cannot battle each other nor attack each other's Pokemon or else it will count as an automatic disqualification. Clear?" Everyone nodded.

"The battles will start at 3pm today, now will be the time to assign you groups and meet your team members!" the mayor raised his hand up in the air and the screen shuffled everyone's pictures, then set up the groups of three.

Avi gasp; she found her group and wasn't sure whether or cheer or not. She was paired up with Ash and Legend.

Ash gasped, and Pikachu was left in awe as well.

"Out of everyone here..." Avi muttered.

"It's temporary; we'll power through this and we'll put a stop to him once we move on to the next stage..." Ash tried comforting.

"... One wrong move and I don't care if I'm disqualified... He's going down..." she says angrily.

"Rai Rai..." Raichu said as his ears go down.

Ash and Avi walk together to Legend, looking clearly amused as they approached him.

"My my, what are the odds Avi? We actually have to work together for this... And, you're Ash Ketchum; I saw your performance back in Kalos and I must say you are quite the trainer! Major respect to you!" he said as his Toxicroak stood there awkwardly behind him. Avi stood there, glaring at him. Ash was confused, Legend was actually nice to him and it slightly threw him off.

"Um... Thanks!" he said happily.

"And that Pikachu of yours, I'm quite jealous of it's impressive strength! Tell me, would you trade anything for him?" he asked.

"I'm sorry but Pikachu isn't up for trade; he's been my partner since day one of my journey and I would never give him nor any of my Pokemon up unless it's some kind of special circumstance..." he replied apologetically.

"It's fine my good sir, it was just a question!" Legend chimed. Then he gave a look to Aviana, "This one here would take everything I say to her wrong and wouldn't give me the light of day!"

"Stop acting like you're just some trainer you killer!" she exclaimed. The area went quiet and Avi fixed her hood to hide her face more; if it's possible since her fringe already covered about half her face already.

Legend cleared his throat, "Well, it's lunch time and I was told we were to use this time to get to know each other... I know of this amazing restaurant down the hill from here we should go to!" Legend exclaimed. He grabbed Avi and Ash, and runs down to the restaurant.

To Ash's surprise, it's the restaurant his own mother Delia owns.

"Ash, what a surprise!" she exclaimed happily, "Are these your friends?"

"Hi mom, these are my teammates for the tourney! This is Aviana, and this is-" he looks around, Legend is nowhere to be seen.

"The other moron you saw with us is bad news... But he's not doing anything wrong at the moment so he's okay I guess..." Avi muttered, but then her mood lit up. "But it's super nice to meet you Mrs. Ketchum! This is one of my buddies, Raichu!" she introduced.

"Rai Rai!" Raichu said proudly once again while tapping his chest with his paw.

"Aw what a sweetie! It's great to meet you," she smiled her warm motherly smile, "It's great to know Ash has another great friend like you! Lunch will be on me, nothing to worry about dear! Do you have somewhere to stay as well? You're more than welcomed to stay with us!"

"Moooom!" Ash whined. Delia then pulled Ash to the side and whispered to him, "I have a good vibe about this one dear!" Ash blushed, "Mom, I'm not looking for a girlfriend or anything! I just met her and she's just a friend!" he quietly warned.

"Mother's intuition, I know what I'm talking about~" she sung. He sighed in annoyance, then went back to Aviana. "Sorry about that," he chuckled nervously.

"It's okay," she giggled, "My mom does that to me too, nothing that bugs me!"

Legend then came out of the bathroom, "I really had to go!" he laughed, acting like a friendly trainer. Avi sighed in annoyance, taking a seat with Raichu at a huge booth in the corner.

Legend made his introduction and went to go sit with Avi; which made Ash's blood pressure rise seeing how upset and full of hate she had for him. But Ash was mentally arguing with himself as to why it's getting to him.

After their lunch, Legend took off for the Pokemon Center while Ash and Avi took a walk around Pallet Town, him showing her around and Pikachu and Raichu playing around as they walked.

"I always took a walk through this forest as a kid and enjoyed the company of the Pokemon here. This is where I actually met your cousin when we were kids!" he said.

"She told me the story one too many times," she giggled, "She sent me a message saying how excited she was to see you again and to travel with you, it was really nice to hear. Thank you for giving her the confidence to go out and adventure..." she said as she looked around the forest, watching the Caterpie and Ratatta in the area.

"I'm glad I was able to make her smile..." he said, then he trailed off into complete silence.

Avi looked at him, "You're so quiet... Is there a reason...?" she asked.

"... Serena kissed me before we said our goodbyes... And I don't know how to feel about it..." he said as his hat covered his eyes and he stared at the ground.

"She hasn't told me about that... I know she's had the biggest crush on you, but I didn't know she would actually go pursue it..." she muttered, "Well, what did you feel afterwards?"

"I felt... Proud that I was able to give her confidence to do that... And I'll admit my ego went up a bit after getting my first kiss," he chuckled, "But I only see her as a friend and now I don't know if I should see her only as that or not anymore... I'm very oblivious to this subject and I don't know if I'll ever find a girl that likes me that much... I rarely get crushes on anyone so this is hard..."

"Ash..." Avi started. Ash sat on a tree stump and looked very conflicted. Avi followed and sat next to him, putting a hand on his shoulder. "You wouldn't want to force anything on you nor Serena... Forcing feelings you don't have will result in consequences later and possibly hurting others... And I'm sure you'll find someone... I'm sure of it... Believe it or not, I've seen when you compete in the Pokemon League and that fiery dedication in your eyes, I'm sure many girls fall in love with," she giggled. Ash smiled, her laugh giving him a warm feeling inside.

"Just be your cool, calm, and collected, confident self and you'll find someone in no time," she smiled.

He smiled big, "Thanks Avi..." Pikachu and Raichu glanced at each other while their cheeks sparked, smirking and knowing there's some kind of chemistry going on between them.

Avi looks at her watch, "Let's go to the Pokemon Center and find Legend, the competition will start in 20 minutes..."

"Sounds good to me." Ash replied, and they all took off.
