Blake forces in a breath, looking in the mirror hanging on her dresser.
"Today's the day," Blake mutters, turning and slipping on her black Cross Academy uniform that was sprawled on her bed the night before. She picks up the red ribbon from off the floor, staring at it in confusion.
"How is anyone supposed to get this thing into a bow?!" Blake asks herself. She shrugs, and tries her best to put the ribbon into a stupid bow. Blake groaned as she looked in the mirror again. The bow was messy and uneven, threatening to fall apart the minute she moved. Blake grumbles, "That's it.." She unties the bow, making it into a tie. She smirks proudly. "Better. Much better." She ran her fingers through her straight hair, huffing when her usual strand of hair flew into her face like always. She whisked it aside, slipped on her thigh-high socks and hand-me-down shoes (which smelled like blood), and stepped out into the hall.
She glanced at the clock on the wall. It was eight-o-clock! Her slow walked turned into a run for the kitchen. She wrenched an apple out of the pantry. Kaien was sipping his coffee, smiling at her.
"So you decided to finally wake up, huh?" Kaien snickered.
"Shut up!" Blake motioned to her tie. "This took a while, Dad!" Kaien acted hurt, and Blake shot him one of her death glares. "Ugh, love you...I guess." She smiled jokingly and hugged him before turning.
"Wait, wait! Dear, loving daughter don't leave me!"
Blake groaned, turning back around again. "You're so embarrassing..." Kaien nodded, supposing that much was true. He handed her a cross necklace along with a bandage with the Cross Academy's symbol sewed delicately into it. Blake looked curious.
"Here," Kaien said, placing the items into her hand. "This was my daughter, Yuki's.. I thought it was time for you to start protecting the school. Just like her."
Blake blinked. "What do you mean? Is there something else you need to tell me?"
Kaien only shook his head, then looked away. He closed her hand around the gifts, and reached into his pocket to pull out a crinkled, folded paper. "Read this. It'll explain everything. I'm too old for that kind of thing."
Blake tied the bandaged to her left arm, and put the necklace (along with the note), into her skirt pocket. "Thanks again, Dad." She turned on her heel, and left the kitchen, leaving a very serious Kaien behind.
"If only...if only I knew for sure," he whispered under his breath.
