"Alright now he knows where we are" Jonathan added. "Jonathan he knew before, he was just waiting or planning for something else, something bigger" Maia added, she was still out of breath from that shadowy figure almost attacking her. "Jonathan, what can we do?", his sister added. "I don't know that yet, just try and get some sleep," her brother said and kissed her on her forehead. Maia crawled into bed and Jonathan went out of the room and locking the door behind him.

Maia slept for a while and was woken up by a cold rush of air, she jumped and saw her father at the window staring outside, with his dagger in his hand, he took it from her bedside table. Maia opened her mouth to speak and a dry puff of carbon dioxide came out of her mouth, she wasn't able to speak, the only sound that came out was a choking sound. Her father turned around to face his daughter, "Maia, my little girl, I understand that you can't speak, or move, there is nothing you can do. No one is going to save you, I have already taken care of Jonathan, it would have been a lot easier if he joined me, to rise up in power, but as I see. Adults make their own decisions, however, YOU can not" her father voice droned on. "You are like a small child, if I left you in that forest for a week, you would be dead, you having nothing, expect your demon side but that always needs to be fed, demons are always hungry, not just for blood and raw flesh, but they enjoy watching pain, suffering and madness, it...completes them. However, what I do is for the sake of our family, the human world is ending, but we are not sure when. I need to be prepared, I need to lead my family through this...", his voice was so soft, he made Maia feel like that her father WAS a good person, even though he wasn't, she could start to see how it was hard to argue with her brother, she knew where he got his persuasion from, his father, her father. She wanted to ask so many questions but she wanted answers and she deserved answers.

Still wanting to speak, she couldn't her throat burned as she even attempted to say a word. She moaned to pain. She was scared, she wasn't scared for just herself, her brother was hurt or dead, she didn't know which. She wanted to scream at him, anything to try and throw him off guard. Her father came closer to her and quickly shuffled back, whimpering in pain like a puppy who was injured. "Maia, why are you so afraid of me?, I'm here to help, to help our family. It's just you and me now" her father said, cooly. A demon scurried behind father, it had a long torso, with a snake-like tail, and had a face of a dragon with dried flesh and blood all over its furry and scaly body. It's teeth her almost as sharp of knives and its eyes were a dark blood red colour which looked like death. His wings were outspread, with claws extended and gave out a shrieking roar, she couldn't move or anything. Then from the shadows a figure jumped behind the demon and silt its throat open, blood gushed out from the body and it shrieked and hissed until it turned into ashes. Her father had a surprised face that she has never seen in a while. Then the figure with its knife put it around her Father's neck and said "Heal her, NOW" the figure demanded.

The figure was her brother, she gave out a sigh of relief but she still couldn't speak. Her throat burned a little, almost every time she was breathing roughly. Her father walked towards her and injected a different substance and Maia breathed out and was coughing roughly. "Jonathan..." She was just getting to grips with her voice, it felt like someone had cut out her vocal cords out. She rubbed her throat where it was it was still burning but it was slowing down, quite quickly.

Maia didn't speak, she felt her legs twitch and she could feel them again, she could move again. She limped to her brother, who moved the knife away from his father's throat and walked back to his sister holding her by her arms making sure she wouldn't fall or anything. Maia growled at her father and then hissed, baring her teeth at him. "Stay away from me, from us" she screamed. It was the only time she felt protection and she had the freedom of speech towards her father. Her father laughed it sounded like metal scraping on metal. "Maia, If you want to save your little girlfriend, then you will come with me," he said, his tone was hardening. Maia was lost for words, eventually, she yelled out "What have you done to my girlfriend, father?". "Nothing, yet", his voice echoed through her head and all she could think about was Lacey. Her father added,"It's nice that you address me as Father and not as my real name, it makes me feel like I'm still your father, your blood, no matter how many times you wish that your father was someone else, I will always be your father". Maia didn't realise the promises she wasn't keeping, she forgot that she was addressing him as 'Father' when she knew that he would never be her father. Maia growled and snarled at him. "Well at least I know you are like me, more than you know", her father added. Maia stopped growling and snarling, she was silent, she didn't realise how savage she was becoming, she was like her father, more than she knew. Maia roared "I am not like you". He didn't answer, her father was as quiet, it was scaring her.
