Maia pulled herself upwards and shivered, she was cold. "Am I healed now?", she said. "You are fine, don't worry, please just rest", he breathed. "Alright, shit it hurts", she said. "I know, it will burn for a while but you will be fine", he said. "You know what happened, right", she said nervous. "Yes and it's fine, it doesn't matter", her brother explained. Maia nodded her head and stood up, her skin was tight, she couldn't move much, she hissed and cursed at herself for every bit of pain she got.
Jonathan came to help his sister, but Maia pushed him away. "I need a minute, Jonathan, I feel sick", she said. "Fine, go to your bedroom", her brother said in his dismissal voice. She walked back into her bedroom and went on her phone and saw it was 6:34, she saw that half the day was gone.
*FLASHBACK*
Maia was dragged upstairs into her bedroom, her body was almost like a skeleton and she was grey and blue. "Jonathan", she whispered. It was her brother, "I need to eat something", she said breathless. "I know", her brother said restlessly. His hand was wiping her tears away, then behind him was their father. "Jonathan, stop coddling your sister, you are one who put her in the basement and she won't learn her lesson if you keep comforting her". "Yes father", her brother said under his breath, "Sorry Maia". Her brother walked out the room, her father walking towards her, then Matthew ran inside and hugged Maia. "Maia, where have been?", her brother asked. "I was sick, so I had to say downstairs for the weekend, and I can't give you anything otherwise you won't be able go to that sleepover round Tom's house, would you", she explained and she knew she was lying to him, but it was only way he was protected. Jonathan came back in the room, "The car is loaded, we are ready to go home", he added. "I will deal with you later, my daughter", her father whispered. He walked the room with Jonathan following him.
"Are you ready Matt?", Maia said to her little brother. He nodded and got up to his feet and walked down the stairs, once he down the stairs, Maia chased after him, pulling him upwards, tickling him on the sofa. Before she fell off the Matthew landing on top her, Maia with her hands by her side, she was breathless. "I knew you were a fighter", she added, catching her breath. Matthew giggled and pulled away from Maia but Jonathan, he screamed at him. Maia got up to her feet and pulled Matthew away from him and then he started crying, "How could you do that, he is just a child?", she screamed at her brother. Maia was dragged up by her brother and thrown onto the wall, Jonathan holding his sister. His body was cage around her, his body was rising and falling as he was breathing.
"Jonathan, move away from me", she growled at her brother. He smiled grimly at his sister, "Maia, what's happening?", Matthew questioned, he was nervous and scared. "Nothing, Matthew, me and you sister are just discussing things", her brother answered. "Matthew, just go and wait in the car, everything will be alright", Maia said, not wanting her little brother to get involved. Matthew left the house and walked passed their father and Maia heard the car door slam shut. She breathed out a sigh of relief, knowing her brother was safe.
Maia tried to move out of her brother's way, but she couldn't, he wouldn't let her. "Jonathan, let me go", she roared at him. "Tut, tut tut, little sister", he said, waving his index finger and shaking his head. "I haven't done anything wrong, why are you tell me off?", she questioned him. "You never shout at me, you should know that", he said.
Jonathan's and Maia's father walked into the room. "Jonathan, what is all of this?", their father asked. Maia was the one who spoke, "Father, Jonathan is bullying me again, make him stop", she begged him. "Hush, Maia, I didn't ask you, I asked your brother", her father roared. Jonathan let go of his sister and she tried to run past her father, then he was grabbing her, pulling her backwards, her kicking and screaming, then her father took a syringe out his blazer pocket and and stabbed it Maia's body. She was hanging their until her father just dropped her on the floor. She was lying a crumpled heap, no longer screaming, no longer moving at all.
"I never thought my sister would have so much fire inside of her", Jonathan added. "She is ready, we will start in two weeks", their father said, out of breath. Jonathan carried his sister inside the car and put he seat belt on and Matthew was already sleeping in the car. Then once the family was in the car, they all drove off back to their house.
*FLASHBACK END*
Maia couldn't sleep, something was preventing her from all sleeping, but only she didn't know what it was. Her brother came into the room, "I can hear you, why are not asleep?", he brother questioned. "I just can't, I feel something moving around in my blood, like an infection", she breathed. Jonathan slowly pulled Maia's hand and saw her red veins were bold and a black liquid moving through her bloodstream. "I see it, it does look like a inflection but I can't cure it, I don't know how?", her brother explained, he sounded sad. "Maybe it will pass", she said. Maia knew what it was, it was Sebastian's blood, from when she cut herself, with his blood-soaked glass shard.
Jonathan kissed Maia on her forehead and he walked out of her bedroom. She knew her brother couldn't help her. She tucked herself into her bed and she tried to think of the good things in her life.
