Stupid head.

I sat sulkily on the bench, my feet propped on the one across from me as I watched Eric talk to the new female initiates. One of them was getting on my nerves, and although Eric didn't seem to notice, she was outright flirting with him.

She was new, she'd just gotten accepted into Dauntless and I hadn't been one of her trainers. I couldn't blame her for flirting with Eric, he was exceptionally good looking and buff, his tattoos and piercings gave him an intimidating edge, it was just his personality that was absolute crap.

But hey, so was mine.

And in the end, it didn't matter how hard she flirted with him, I was still the one he came home to every night, and I couldn't help but smirk at that. The poor kid was trying so hard to get him to notice her, it was almost amusing.

"Hey. Camille, right?"

Hmm?

Ah, another initiate. New initiate. Whatever.

I twisted, looking at him. I kept calling all of them kids, when really they were just a few years younger then me. Really, it was just hard to see them as anything other then that, especially with them being so new.

When you join Dauntless, you grow up pretty quick, and these kids had a long way to go.

"Yeah."

"I'm Brendan."

"That's nice." He was one of the transfers, I think, although I couldn't remember from what. I think he was ranked pretty high, so props to him. I had more respect for those who tried hard to be the best, who strove to be number one, then I did for those who were content on the bottom.

Like that flirting bitch fifteen feet from me.

I was going to have to have a talk with her before she embarrassed herself.

"Mind if I sit beside you?"

"Plenty of room." I mumbled absently, propping my chin on my hand.

Eric's lips started to twitch, and I frowned, wondering if one of the girls in front of him said something funny. He had a rather morbid sense of humor, it was hard to get him to laugh, even I had a hard time. Usually I just caught him off guard with something snippy and he would chuckle.

"Are you a Dauntless born?" Brendan the newbie asked, planting himself beside me, a little closer then necessary. I tilted my head so I could look at him, finding he wasn't too bad looking, he'd already spent some of his credits getting his hands tattooed from the looks of it.

"Yep."

"It must have been so nice to be raised here," he sighed, running his hand through thick black curls. "I was born in Amity."

"Didn't fit in, huh?"

"I was too rowdy," he shrugged. "If I hadn't been old enough for the ceremony they probably would have kicked me out and left me factionless."

"Well, you're Dauntless now. The only way out is to die." I said, letting my eyes wander back to Eric; he was enjoying the female attention way too much, and I was going to punch him for it. A third girl had joined the other two, but this one was older, she probably knew how much of an asshole Eric was. I hoped she was warning the two idiots off before I broke their necks.

"Sounds better then, 'peace and harmony'." Brendan snorted. "I'm so sick of that bullshit, y'know? Not everything can be solved with words. Sometimes you gotta take action!"

I raised a brow. "As long as you can follow orders as well. We're soldiers, we don't just go on rampages or get to do whatever we want. We protect the city after all."
