~Chapter 2~
(Rewritten)My next breath freezes in my lungs as the boy sinks his teeth into the girl's neck. His animalistic growling now becomes muffled as his mouth begins to fill with the blood now flowing from the hole he's creating.
This... This can't be happening.
The girl wails in pain, the enclosed room amplifying it until it rings in my ears as both the girl and boy slam into a nearby desk before crashing to the floor. The girl fights with every ounce of strength to push the boy off, but his teeth are too firmly latched on her neck.
Everyone stands frozen in place, just watching the girl struggling for her life. Her next scream breaks through the fog wrapped around my thoughts and I finally force my body to act.
With the call to my boys still connected, I lock the screen and shove the phone into my back pocket.
Hastily, I look around for anything that can help when I see the decorative scarf draped around Ms. Smith's neck. With a very iffy plan formulating, I rush over to her and start to unwind it.
"Go unlock the door and get ready to open it," I instruct her with much more confidence than I feel at the moment. She looks down at me in a daze and I clap my hands in front of her face to snap her out of it. "GO!" I shout, my voice slightly cracking from the strain. With a shaky nod, she rushes to the door to unlock it as I turn back to the girl as she struggles against her friend.
I hurry over to the struggling pair, having to shove desks and chairs out of my way just to reach them.
My breathing comes out in short pants as I quickly wrap the scarf once around my right hand before positioning myself behind the boy. Using the same hand, I grab hold of the boy's short brown hair as tight as my fingers can get within the strands, and plant my knee into the middle of his back for leverage.
Sorry, I mentally tell him before yanking hard on his hair, but he just sinks his teeth harder into the girl's neck, eliciting another scream of pain from her.
I immediately stop pulling but don't release my hold. I frantically search around us for something to pry open his mouth. If I don't then he's going to rip half her neck off and cause her to bleed to death on the floor.
Think, Sang. Think!!!
My attention stays on a flash of metal as I scan the classroom again, and I zero in on a large cowboy style belt buckle. I don't even look up at the person, already turning my attention back to the boy, and call out to them. "You, with the belt buckle. Take it off and come here."
Lucky for me they don't freeze up like Ms. Smith did as I hear the clinging sound of them whipping off their belt before stepping up next to me. Their campfire scent surrounds me as they wait for me to tell them what to do next. "I'm going to need you to jam that buckle into his mouth and pry it open."
I ready myself as they follow my instructions, moving to my right side to shove the buckle into the boy's mouth. Out of the corner of my eye, I see the new boy come into view, his short, dirty blond hair completely disheveled. His tan complexion a few shades paler as his own fear shines through his dark blue eyes.
I shift my full focus back to the struggling boy, pulling against him as Cowboy uses the buckle to pry his teeth from the girl's neck. Blood pours out of the boy's open mouth causing my skin to crawl at the horrific sight.
The girl's soft whimpering forces me to shake most of the feeling off as I concentrate on saving her.
Using every scrap of strength I possess, I start to pull the boys head up and away from the girl's neck. He starts to violently thrash around under me as he tries to get back at her, but with Cowboy's help, I'm able to wrap the scarf a few times around his mouth to keep him from biting anything again.
