Smile

Mindy's P.O.V

It's different. Things seemed to be happier and brighter. But I still couldn't say I was completely happy. It felt weird to smile for real. I was used to plastering a smile on my face. It felt too good to be real. It probably wouldn't last for long anyway. Everything good comes to an end eventually, I've learned that the hard way.

I sat on a bench in the park and watched as Niall, Liam, Louis, and Zayn played an informal game of football. Louis was shouting with laughter every time Zayn tripped over his own feet and fell to the ground. My eyes always stayed on Liam. It was involuntary and it scared me. I didn't like how attached I was getting. Things like this didn't last and I don't thing I could handle being attached to someone like that again.

Liam looked up after kicking the ball into the goal and winked with his usual smirk. Every time our eyes met I couldn't help but feel warm and fuzzy inside, those brown eyes were so beautiful and I still wasn't used to the way they looked at me with such happiness.

"You seem sad." A familiar chuckle came from behind me. "Liam losing against Louis?" Harry laughed as he took a seat beside me.

"Oh please, Liam's kicking his ass...I think."

"No one can beat Louis he's great at football." Harry murmured in a tone of admiration. "But you still seem sad. What's on your mind?" Harry changed the subject off of Louis quickly.

"Oh it's nothing...don't worry about it." I said quickly as I picked at my nails nervously.

"I know that I may look like an idiot...but I'm really not Mindy, I can see something is up."

"Don't worry your pretty little curls about it. It's just stupid girl issues."

"Okay... Just know that if you need to talk I'll be here. I may be punk but I'm not a heartless punk."

"Heads up!" Niall called but it was already too late.

The ball flew through the air and hit Harry right in the head. He ended up toppling to the ground and rubbing his forehead with a pained expression on his face. The white and black ball rolled to a stop near his head.

"Reckon he isn't headless either." Chuckled Niall as he apologized and helped Harry up.

"He'll never let go of that ball will he? He's worse than Lou." Liam chuckled as he came to sit across from me on the picnic bench.

There were still a few boxes of delivered pizza littering the table in front of us. They were empty of course, the boys turned into animals when they saw the food. I looked over at Niall and watched as he dribbled the ball expertly with his feet. I jumped slightly when I felt a finger brush against my cheek. I looked back over at Liam and smiled. His hand cupped my cheek softly and the look on his face was unreadable. His finger brushed very slowly in circles, they felt sort of rough but I liked it. We were silent for a while before I looked up at him and lifted up my eyebrow in question.

"What?" He asked defensively.

"What are you staring at?"

"Your hair looks like chocolate when the sun hits it." He says simply.

I couldn't help but burst into laughter at his serious statement. He said it so simply and he looked at me in confusion when I started laughing.

"What's wrong with chocolate? Everyone likes chocolate."
