Winter's Father

Chapter 21

                         Jace
   "He looked right at me like he didn't even know me." Captain Rogers said as we sat in the van.

   "How's that even possible? That was like, seventy years ago." The man asked.

   "Zola," I said from the corner of the van.

   "What?" The Captain asked, looking up at me.

   "Bucky's unit was captured right? Zola experimented on him, and-"

   "That must've helped him survived the fall." The Captain finished for me. "How do you know that?" He asked.

   "I hacked into Hydra's files and, um, found that." I answered, my eyes wondering the floor.

   I was also the reason they wiped him again. It was all my fault. All of it. If it weren't for me, they wouldn't be in this van, too.

   I'm so sorry, I wanted to say.

   The Captain started to look sick, like something was very wrong. Apparently, the Black Widow saw that too.

   "None of this is your fault, Steve." She said.

   "Even when I had nothing, I had Bucky." He replied.

   Me too.

   The Black Widow grabbed her shoulder, and winced at the pain.

   "If we don't put pressure on that wound, she's gonna bleed out right here in the truck." I said to one of the agents guarding us.

   The agent pulled out a tazer stick and tazed the other agent.

   Then the agent pulled their helmet off.

   "That thing was squeezing my brain." Agent Hill from S.H.I.E.L.D. said.

   "Who's that?" She asked, gesturing to me.

   "We need to get out of here first, don't you think?" The man asked.

   "Okay." She replied, rolling her eyes.

   She pulled out a lazer thing like Fury used to escape the Winter Soldier, and made a hole in the floor of the van.
  
   "On three, we jump." She said.

   The Captain grabbed Black Widow and me.

   "One. Two. Three!" Then we jumped. First, it was us. Next, the man. Last, Agent Hill.

   Once we all got up, we followed Agent Hill. "Get in the car." She instructed and we all got in, Agent Hill driving.

   Later, we arrived at an old warehouse.

   "GSW. She's lost a pint. Maybe two." Agent Hill told a doctor about the Black Widow's wound.

   "Let me take her."

   "She'll want to see him first." Agent Hill said.

   We continued following her. Where is she taking us now?

   Then we walked into a room. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

   "About time." Nick Fury said as we walked in.

   How is this even possible? The Winter Soldier killed him. How?

   "Nice to see you again." He said to me.

   "How are you even alive?" I asked.

    "Tetrodotoxin B. Slows the pulse to one beat per minute.  Bruce Banner developed it for stress. It didn't work too great for him, but we found another use for it." He answered.

   Pretty impressive.

   "Why all the secrecy? Why not just tell us?" The Captain asked, crossing his arms.

   "Any attempt on the Director's life had to look successful." Agent Hill answered.

   "Can't kill you if your already dead." Fury added.
