“You’re late” you speak into the darkness. Alright, perhaps it was a bit dramatic, but you had spent three hours waiting for your flatmate to get home and you deserved it.

A sigh returns from the doorway as Thea turns the light on. “Hey to you too” she greets sarcastically, putting her keys away as she throws her bag onto the couch.

“What are you still doing up?” she asks with a frown, concerned that something was wrong.

“I was waiting for you” you shrug. “You know it’s the third time this week you’ve been out this late. At first I thought it must have been Alex, but guess who called the landline tonight?”

“Alex?” Thea suggests with a sigh.

“Correct!” you cheer with faux enthusiasm. “So,” you start, your smile dropping as you settle forwards, “would you like to tell me where you’ve been?”

“I was at the club” she replies simply.

“Could you try that without lying?” you question, your arms crossing in front of you.

“Y/N” Thea sighs full-bodily.

“No, Thea, I deserve the truth. We’ve been friends since we were kids, I shouldn’t have to ask you not to lie” you sigh, standing as your anger grows. “You are my best friend, I shouldn’t have to put the pieces together, you should want to tell me these things.”

“I do want to, I just, I don’t want to put you in danger” Thea counters, practically collapsing onto the couch.

“It’s not like you’re out with the vigilante, Thea, you can tell me, you know that” you speak softly, shaking your head in dismay. The silence that greets you in response, however, has you curious, and you can’t help but think, no, she couldn’t be, could she? “Thea?”

“You remember my nickname, the one Ollie used to call me when we were kids?” Thea replies, slowly letting her gaze settle upon you.

“Speedy?” you question, curious as to where exactly she was going with this.

“It’s my codename” she sighs. “I work along with Ollie, The Green Arrow and a few others to help this city.”

“Oh my God” you mutter, rushing to sit down as you absorb the truth. “I- I just thought you were in a relationship or still struggling with everything about your dad, I didn’t think…”

“It’s not that I didn’t want to tell you, Y/N, I wanted to tell you so many times! It’s just, I didn’t want you put in danger because of me. I’ve already lost my dad, my mum, even Oliver at one point. I couldn’t lose my best friend.”

“You won’t,” you reply with a reassuring smile, “I promise
