~Chapter 6~
As I am walking off, I find Tauriel sitting next to the cell Kili is in. He is in the middle of speaking to her, but she looks up at me and pats the spot next to her.
"Sit! Kili was just telling me about the time he saw I fire moon!" Tauriel says.
I smile and take a seat, resting my elbows on my knees. "You've seen a fire moon?" I ask Kili.
He nods and begins to tell me the story. "We left late one day, you see, and over the horizon was this big fire moon. It was huge and a bright orange colour."
"That sounds amazing! I've always wanted to see a fire moon!" I tell Kili.
"Maybe I can show you one sometime." Kili smiles and I exchange a look with Tauriel.
"I'm exchange, maybe I can show you the stars." I say.
"But I've seen the stars?"
"No, all the stars. When you climb to the top of one of the trees at night and look up at the sky, you can see everything. Every star, and the sky isn't just black, it's all sorts of blues and purples." I tell him, looking up at the roof.
"Really?" Kili asks. "I've seen the sky from the Blue Mountains, but I've never seen anything other than a black and blue sky."
"The skies here are beautiful," Tauriel says wistfully.
"I would love to see them," Kili says, grinning widely at me.
"Celaireth," Legolas suddenly appears and glances between Tauriel and I. "My father wants to see you."
I nod and stand up. "Lead the way, Legolas." I say.
---
"Celaireth, Thorin told me what you plan on doing." Thranduil says.
"Thranduil, I am doing it for our kin. I am doing it to protect the woodland realm." I defend myself.
"I know you want to go, and I would let you but he also told me how you nearly died a few days ago." Thranduil adds. "How would your father feel if he found out you died for a Dwarf?"
"That would be my choice!" I snap. "I want to go on this journey, so I will go!"
"You almost died for that dwarf?" Legolas comes and stands beside his father.
"What does it matter anyway? I lived, didn't I?" I grumble.
"It matters! If that happens again you may not live!" Thranduil yells. "You are not going with them! Elrond would have my head if I let you go and you died!"
"That's not your choice to make nor is it my father's! I am going and that's final!" I shout back.
I know I'm not being very nice to the Elven King, but I have my reasons. Yeah, he does have point about my father being upset, but he is being unreasonable. I lived and that's all that matters. I can clearly take care if myself.
"What happened to you?" What happened to the little Elf who was scared of her own shadow?" Legolas asks.
"She's been gone for a while, Legolas, you know that." I say tearing my angry gaze from Thranduil.
"Then what about the Elf that did everything she was told and protected her kin in the forests of Mirkwood?" Thranduil asks.
"She died, somewhere in the outside world." I mutter, looking down.
I no longer have the strength to argue. I just want to curl up in some corner and never be found. I know that they are right, I'm risking everything for these Dwarves, but they deserve to get their homes back.
"Then who is standing in front of me?" Legolas questions, coming to stand directly in front of me. "Who is this Elf that claims to be my best friend?"
"A fearless form of her." I say. "A form that shows no fear in the face of danger, who will do whatever it takes to protect her kin."
Legolas stares at into my hazel eyes with his bright blue ones. Thranduil does the same, watching me closely as if to see if I'm serious.
"That's her, that's her right there." My father says finally breaking the silence. "You are a spitting image of her now."
"Who?" I ask, tilting my head in confusion. Legolas looks back at his father, confusion clear in his eyes.
"Your mother."
Those two words tear me apart and fill me with joy at the same time. I do remember being told that I looked just like my mother. Wavy auburn hair, tall, slim, hazel eyes, everything. But I guess my mother had a fire that we never knew about. Legolas looks at me and takes a step back.
"I can see how she looks like her but what does this argument have to do with her mother?" He asks, looking back to her father.
"She had that same fire in her. She was sweet and kind but she also had that hidden fire in there, ready to scorch anyone that got on her bad side." Thranduil states with a soft smile. "She was once a woodland Elf, then she went to live with Elrond in Rivendell.
I open my mouth to reply when another Elf bursts into the room. Why is everyone so ready to interrupt me these days? This Elf looks to be a guard, probably for the cells.
"My king, the dwarves have escaped."
All eyes go to Thranduil. He seems only slightly shocked by this. The corners of his lips are tilted up in a smile.
"Find them." He says to Legolas and I.
We nod and take off out of the room. Matching each other step for step we run down to the cells.
"Where could they have gone?" Tauriel asks.
"The cellar would be the only way to get out. Everywhere else is guarded." I say running down the stairs to the cellar. I can hear my kin racing behind me, they aren't right behind me but they're close. I enter the cellar to see Bilbo tapping on the ground with his large feet.
"Bilbo?! What are you doing?" I ask running over to him.
"Getting out." He says, walking over to the side of the room I'm standing on.
The large slab of wood tilts down as the rest of the Elves make it into the cellar. My eyes lock with Legolas' as Bilbo and I are plummeted down into the river.
