~Chapter 19~

When I open my eyes I see bright sunlight. A bloodstained cloak has been laid over me. At first I am confused and I think I am back on the road with the dwarves. Then I remember that most of the company went to the Lonely Mountain and Kili is dead. Sitting up I find Legolas sitting on a boulder near the lake cleaning his sword and wounds.

"Legolas?" I call out.

My right temple is pounding. I reach up and tentatively touch it. I wince in pain and I can feel a small scar.

"Don't touch it, Felicity." Legolas says.

"What happened?" I ask rubbing my eyes.

"Well the Orc slammed you head against a tree and you blacked out. I killed the foul thing and waited for you to wake up." Legolas replies wiping off the blade of his sword.

"How long have I been out?" I ask.

"Three days." My brother says.

He looks up at something an I follow his gaze. In the light of the setting sun I can see the half charred Laketown.

"They killed Smaug?" I ask.

"Bard did."

"We should go see everyone." I say, attempting to stand.

"Felicity relax." Legolas says coming over and helping me stand. "I don't know who lived or not, I stayed here with you."

My heart stops and I look back at Laketown. If Legolas doesn't know who lived then did anyone? Did Madeira? Thorin? Bilbo? My breath comes in rapid gasps as I try to think of all the possibilities.

"Come on, lets go see who lived." Legolas says leading me toward the bridge.

When we get into Laketown my nose wrinkles at the smell of rotting and burned bodies. We reach the fence where Kili saved me and I notice that he is no longer there, just a pile of ash. My stomach twists and I force myself to keep looking ahead. Legolas leads me through the burned and broken buildings until we come to where Bard's house is. Surprisingly this part of town was saved from the flames, for the most part.

"Felicity?" A voice calls when my brother and I push open the door.

"Bilbo!" I cry and rush over to hug him.

"Felicity!"

"Felicity, your alive!"

The voices keep coming as I count off the dwarves. Dwalin, Balin, Ori, Nori, Bombur, Bifur, Bofur, Dori, and Gloin.

"Where's Fili and Thorin?" I ask.

Balin and Dwalin exchange a look and shake their heads at me.

"Kili didn't make it either." Bifur says.

"I know. He saved me from the flames and died in my arms." I say sadly.

The expressions on the dwarf's faces makes my heart break even more. Bilbo stares at me in shock and glances at the other dwarves.

"He was quite fond of you." Gloin says solemnly.

"I know. I was fond of him too." I reply.
