~Chapter 15~
"Tauriel? Kili? Fili?" I shout looking around the crowd of people frantically.
I can't find any signs of the Dwarves or Tauriel and my voice cannot be heard well among the cries of the townspeople all around me.
"Tauriel?!" I shout, attempting to raise my voice even more. No response.
I push through the crowd towards the shore of the lake. Maybe they haven't made it to shore yet.
Maybe they won't make it at all.
No, I mustn't think like that. They will make it. They will have survived the dragon fire. They must have survived.
As I push out of the crowd at the shore, I find Tauriel and the Dwarves coming to shore. My heart leaps and relief fills my veins.
"Tauriel!" I call, racing over to help her pull their boat to shore.
"Celaireth! Oh, thank goodness you're alright!" Tauriel's face shows the same amount of relief that I feel.
"Me? I wasn't the one that had to battle dragon fire. Is everyone alright? How did you make it out?" My words come out rushed and shaky, not matter how hard I fight to keep it calm.
"We're fine, Celaireth, don't fret." Tauriel tells me in a soothing voice. "We just followed the river, we were some of the lucky ones."
Tauriel looks around at the townspeople on the shore, many of them suffering from burns and missing limbs.
"Not everyone was this lucky." she adds softly.
"How's Kili?" I ask, peering around Tauriel to the boat where the Dwarves are helping each other onto the shore.
"He'll live," she nods to herself slightly, as if agreeing to some unsaid statement.
Tauriel and I make our way through the throngs of people, helping those in need of assistance. Everyone that could have been recovered from the town has been. Still, many people are missing friends and family members.
Legolas appears through the crowd, his face contorted with worry.
"What's wrong?" I ask.
"My father sent a guard to bring us home." he responds. His eyes flit over to Tauriel briefly.
"Good," I say. "I've had enough death and destruction to last a lifetime."
Legolas leads Tauriel and I over the guard. I notice a slight look of surprise on his face.
