~Chapter 18~
I allow Legolas to lead me blindly through the smoke and flames. I keep my eyes closed and he keeps his hand locked on mine.
"Watch your head." My brother warns.
I duck my head as I feel hot wood graze my hair. The smoke burns my throat and screams come from every direction.
"Where are we going?" I ask, coughing slightly.
"To finish off that Orc." Legolas says.
I open my eyes as he helps me onto the horse and climbs up behind me. Then we take off, racing across the bridge to the main land.
"What about the others? Tauriel and Fili?" I ask glancing back.
"I lost them so I doubled back and found you. They're on their own." Legolas answers grimly.
The pain in my chest spreads through my whole body until I go numb. Legolas keeps one are securely around my waist, holding me up. My head begins to pound along with the sound of the horse's hooves.
"Leggy, he's gone." I whisper shakily.
"He saved you. It was his choice, Fizzy." My brother replies tightening his grip.
"I loved him. I miss him. I will die without him." I murmur.
Legolas doesn't reply, I can hear his soft sigh but he doesn't say a word. The rest of the ride is silent, just like when we were going back to Kili. The only differences now are: we are in the woods going the opposite direction and Kili is now dead.
I can't shake that fact from my mind. I can't stop replaying Kili's death. I can't stop myself from wishing I could've done something. I can't stop wishing I had died instead of him.
As time passes the search for the one Orc dies down. Legolas stops by a large oak tree and let's me rest. A soft breeze blows and leaves gently fall to the ground. A sound alerts me. Something you wouldn't normally notice but for some reason my ears caught the slight sound of shuffling.
"Legolas." I say getting to my feet.
"What is it?" He asks looking back at me.
Without saying I word I pull out my bow and arm it. The shuffling sounds again, right above me. In one swift movement I whip around and point my arrow up into the oak tree. Sitting on a branch at least three feet above my head is the Orc my brother and I have been hunting.
"Hello Orc." I growl in Elvish.
The morning sun glistens off the razor sharp metal coming out of his body. He smiles such a dealt smile that a shiver runs down my spine. Then he leaps at me. I fire the arrow and jump away. My arrow only lodges in the Orc's arm.
Legolas pulls out his daggers and joins me in front of the huge Orc. Legolas makes the first move by rushing forward and stabbing at the Orc. The Orc deflects the blade and I take the chance to fire another arrow. My arrow lodges in the Orc's side and he turns glaring at me.
"Felicity wat-" my bother begins before the Orc shoves him away.
The creature comes at me and I attempt to run but he grabs my jacket. Twisting and turning, I swing my bow around trying to hit the Orc. I can't hit it though.
That's when my head is slammed into the truck of the oak tree. Blackness fills my vision as I go limp.
