Soon, they approached the next shelter. Baylee's heart jumped in hopes that the room would have a telescope.

Much to her delight, it did. Baylee sat down on the floor and looked up.

The people looked just like they had to during a war.

Like fighters.

But there was one boy who caught her eye.

He was small, around her age. And he didn't look very happy.

He probably didn't fit, just like her. But nobody noticed him.

"Lilac! There's a boy!"

Nobody heard.

"Lilac!"

No reply.

Baylee decided to save the conversation for tomorrow.

So she lay down- just on the floor, looking up at the sky.

It was so pleasant so be able to see the skies when you're under the ground.

The second day was ending. Baylee still hadn't gotten used.

Later, part of her was saying. Once you'll fit in.

When?

That night she couldn't fall asleep.

She was thinking about the boy. He wasn't cared about.

What happened to him?

There was an obvious possibility of him getting lost.

Or maybe he was supposed to be like that. Maybe he wanted to.

But it didn't look good.

Baylee had to come see him. Just to make sure he was okay.

She looked at the grey ceiling with dry paint ripped off here and there. Really a horrible sight, she thought just to distract herself. Things saved for tomorrow were for tomorrow.

But she immediately came back to the boy. Maybe she could really help solve the mystery- but now that she had lost all she had left of her life, did getting a bit of credit really matter?

Finally, she allowed herself to close her eyes. The silence felt wrong. Usually there were at least her neighbors playing music.

Baylee smiled. Those people were crazy about parties... Where were they now anyway? Were they even alive?

She had to forget them. At least for a night, otherwise she'd never fall asleep.

Usually Baylee remembered at least a small bit of her dreams. Now everything was blurred to the point of becoming a huge black hole.
