He sat in front of me and I think for the first time in his life he was caught by surprise.
"What do you mean you killed them?" Adam questions before his Alpha could.
"I mean that I ripped their throats out as I watched the life leave their eyes." I state not giving anything away on my face. Adam's eyes widen as he sneaks a glance at the Alpha in disbelief then back to me.
I could feel my mate's continuous stare as he then fired another question, "What did they do to you Everest?"
A shiver ripped through me when he uttered my name, I looked back at my mate. "What's your name?" I asked trying to dodge the question and my feelings.
He seems to want to keep asking questions but surprising us both he answered, "Alpha Killian Elbrus of the Ornus pack." he said with pride.
"Killian." I whispered to myself trying out the name on my tongue, "I like it."
I saw his eyes flash black for a second but I chose to ignore it. I peek a glance at Adam to see his elbows rested on his knees staring at our exchange and from the look on his face he seems to be close to finding out our...situation.
"So how long have you been Alpha?" I question glancing back at Killian.
He sets his jaw and looks down at his clasped hands; knuckles turning white in what appeared to be an act of frustration. He seemed to not want to tell me but it was like he couldn't stop himself from telling me. Was this part of the mate bond? "Since the day my father died."
"How did he die?"
He looks back up at me, "Rogues attacked."
"I'm sorry to hear." He nods and catches my eyes as we turn into a daze. We talk as if we are old friends catching up as if we've known each other for years, as if were equals when we're anything but.
"Holy shit!" I hear Adam whisper yell knocking us out of our daze. We turn our gazes to him and he's looking at me with a look of disbelief. He abruptly stands up making me flinch at the sudden movement but he doesn't seem to notice. "She's your mate isn't she?" He questions looking at Killian.
Killian says nothing only pinches the bridge of his nose. "Oh my god, what are you going to tell Olivia?!" My face morphs into confusion. Who's Olivia?
"Adam get out." Killian grits out.
"No! This is awesome! Wait but what about Olivia, sweet, sweet Olivia. You'll hurt her." He says genuinely concerned for her feelings. I lift an eyebrow about to ask who this Olivia girl is but Killian beats me to it.
"Don't you think I know that! I'm going to reject her and marry Olivia instead just like it was planned before I met her." I abruptly turn my head standing up feeling as my legs hit the chair letting it fall to the ground.
"You're what?" Adam and I say at the same time surprising both of us. Adam continues to speak, "Are you insane! The pack won't survive if you don't have your rightful Luna." He says desperately trying to convince him, but I'm more confused on why he needs convincing. I'm his mate it should be an easy choice yet this woman has somehow convinced this man that they love each other more than his mate ever could. Who the fuck is she?
"What do you mean? I was going to marry Olivia even before I met her, my pack would have survived."
"Yeah that's because we thought she was dead, you told us she was dead."
"I thought she was, this is probably some freak astronomical mix up." I growl loudly catching the attention of both men.
"Stop talking about me like I'm a broken dish you have to hide. I'm a person, I'm your rightful mate and definitely still alive so why would you think I was dead."
"I felt tingles of pain ever since I turned old enough to find a mate then 2 days before you arrived it stopped. I thought you died." He states clenching his fist shaking his head.
I walk up to him placing my hand on his keeping in a shiver from the eruption of tingles from our contact, "But I'm not. Don't you think you would have felt something more painful if I had died." I say questioningly trying to convince him.
He looks thoughtfully at me as if he didn't even know himself, "I-I don't know. When Olivia explained it, it made more sense."
My face morphed into a mixture of confusion and shock, "So you were going to marry some random girl a week after you found out I was dead just because your girlfriend thought I was. Are you delusional, she was obviously biased."
He removes his hand from mine as if I burned him, "Don't talk about her like that." He grits out going to the window and gripping the leather seat tightly.
I look at Adam questioningly but he seems conflicted and a little pissed too. Who the hell is this girl?
"You don't understand," he interrupts me, "I need to marry her."
"What? Why?"
His knuckles turn stark white and he turns around, "Because I do, I love her." He states making me take a step back from him.
"You what?" I whisper in shock as I feel a pang in my heart get greater at the emotionless face he's wearing.
"I love her. Its a hard decision." He shrugs.
My eyes light with fire, "A hard decision? I'm your mate I should be your first choice-- your only choice." Enraged I take a step towards him before Adam pulls me back giving me a warning, pitiful look.
I shrug him off and give Killian a serious look, "So you're saying that after meeting me, you still wanna be with her." I question.
"Yes. No. I don't know." He says pinching the bridge of his nose his face full of confliction.
Adam is about to say something but I beat him to it. "Decide now Alpha, yes or no." I wait for him to say his answer but nothing comes.
"That's not an answer Elbrus." I say shaking my head and the disappointed feeling lingering along with my unshed tears. "And I'm not going to wait for it."
I see Adam display a slight wince as Killian looks at me shell shocked, "What is that supposed to mean?"
I look down and clench my fist displaying my frustration at this situation and look at him trying to force the words out of my mouth, "I'm assuming you have oracles?" He nods about to question me but I speak before he can, "Good. Order a rejection ceremony for their Alpha and his mate." I say feeling bile rise in my throat at the thought.
"You-You can't it's too dangerous you could die-" He stutters with wide hazel eyes.
I cut him off, "You give me no choice. I have survived way too much just to be put into this situation so I'm done sitting by and taking all that life throws at me I need to fight back. I know I will survive the ceremony but the question is: Will you?" He looks taken aback by the question but hardens his face and nods taking a seat at his desk. Adam shakes his head running his finger through his hair muttering profanities.
I pick up my fallen chair and take a seat in it. I look up at Killian's voice, "I mind linked the oracle and he asked us for 6 months preparation."'
My mouth falls open, "That's half a year I can't stay here for half a year."
"Well it's the only time he agreed to so either accept it or talk to him." He states as he turns his chair away from me to look out the window behind his desk.
I grit my teeth and nod my head. Internally thinking of a plan to leave earlier. Or maybe I will ask the oracles myself if they can speed this along.
"This is insanity. Complete insanity." Adam states before stopping and rushing to Killian's side. "I love Olivia too, hell the whole pack does, but please tell me, do you really think that Olivia is worth this. Your rejecting your mate Killian." He pleas but Killian isn't paying attention to him only on the pack members training outside visible through the window.
I stand up and run a hand through my long hair. I really need to cut it, "I'm gonna go...I don't know where but definitely not here." I state going to the door. I can sense they are about to say something so I quickly close the door behind me and speed walk out of there getting lost in the house.
