Paul staggered out of the car and opened the door for Tessa. It was a nice street he stopped at. Each house was a fancy brownstone, and the one they got out at was especially immaculate. Almost too immaculate for someone like Paul to afford or want to live in.
Still, he definitely seemed to know his way around the mini mansion; like when he quickly grabbed a spare key hidden under the welcome mat. He unlocked the door and led Tessa inside the dark house.
He flipped on a light and illuminated a room that was even more well put together then the outside. Everything was tastefully decorated and not one thing was out of place. It reminded Tessa of how her mother tried to keep their house.
Still, she couldn't place where they were. The only portraits on the wall were not giving her any clues. As if could read her mind, Paul suddenly turned around.
"It's the Asher house." He stated, before continuing through the foyer and up the grand staircase.
Tessa felt her eyebrows knot in confusion. "Don't you think it's a little weird to bring me to your girlfriend's house?"
"She's not home and neither are her parents. We're alone until at least tomorrow afternoon." Paul said, completely missing the point.
"I mean, don't you feel a little uncomfortable bringing another girl to your significant other's home?" Tessa pressed, wanting some kind of reaction from Paul. Especially after what went down at the party.
He turned around on the staircase and faced Tessa. His brown eyes bore into her as he tried to figure her out.
"Should I feel uncomfortable?" He asked rhetorically before continuing up the stairs.
"Well, yeah..." Tessa started to say before realizing he didn't care for a response.
He walked up the stairs and had to take two steps at a time to keep up with him. Paul moved down the hall and stopped at a door hiding off the corner. It opened to another staircase, where at the top was a cozy looking room. It was almost like a little apartment. Inside, there was a bed, but there was also a kitchenette, a couch, and an open door which led to a bathroom.
"This is your room then?" Tessa asked as she looked around.
"Yup." Paul answered shortly as he lead Tessa over to his bed. "Make yourself comfortable. I'll be right back. I'm just gonna grab some wine from the kitchen."
Tessa took off her jacket and set it on a chair next to his dresser. She sat down on the edge of his bed and tried to make herself comfortable. It was hard, especially considering that she knew exactly what Paul had in mind for the evening. Why else would he take her to a completely empty house?
She folded her hands in front of her and tried to wait patiently for Paul to return. Somehow, despite the freezing winter weather outside, Tessa became exceptionally hot and had to pull off her cardigan, leaving her in just a short dress and black tights. She was sure he would appreciate the new look when he came back from the kitchen.
Soon enough, she heard the clomping sound of Paul's feet as he ascended the stairs to the attic. When he came into view, she noticed that his tie was loosened and his jacket was unbuttoned. The wine bottle he carried was partially empty. She assumed he had sampled some of the wine before he came up.
Paul gave Tessa a saucy wink as he set his jacket on top of hers'.
"Wine?" He waved the bottle in front Tessa's face, the burgundy drink sloshed around in the glass. "Come on, Tessie. It won't hurt you to have a sip." Paul encouraged her when he noticed the look of hesitation on her face.
