March, 1964
"Excuse you!" Tessa huffed, as yet another person knocked into her without so much as a nod in acknowledgement. She had been to
Marylebone Station plenty of times over the years, but it had never been near as busy as it was today. Then again, it wasn't everyday the Beatles were filming their movie here.
"Move please!" Franny elbowed a young girl who whacked her in the face. "This is hell!" She shouted at Tessa. That being the only way for the two to hear each other over the absolute chaos of the station. "Pure hell!"
Tessa knew that Marylebone was going to be extra busy today, but she didn't anticipate it being as bad as it was.
Nearly the whole month of March went by without so much as a twenty minute phone call between the two young lovers. So, when Paul called her up at the end of the month inviting her to come and watch the boys film their new movie, Tessa was quick to jump on that idea. Her only stipulation was that Franny would be able to come, while his was that she would wear the blue dress that she wore on their first date.
She didn't know why he asked for the blue dress. Still, here she was, at the station with Franny and her blue dress, and still no sign of Paul. Not that she could blame him for choosing to avoid the cluster they were stuck in, but it would be nice to have a purpose other that being trampled by a crowd of teenage girls.
"I swear," Franny growled as group of girls screamed into her ear. "If he he makes us wait here for another minute-"
"Tessa?" A voice cut Franny's tirade off.
They both turned around to find a hulking giant of a man pushing his way towards them. He looked familiar, but Tessa couldn't place where she remembered him from.
"Tessa and Fanny?" He checked as he walked over to the girls, huffing from all the effort he made to get through the crowds.
"Franny!"
"Huh?" The man turned and looked at Tessa's angry friend.
"My name is Franny!" She huffed, looking very put out. Tessa put her hand over her mouth in an attempt to hide her snorting. She didn't mean to laugh at her friend's expense, but seeing Franny's expression was just too much.
"What did I say?" He looked at her confused.
"Did Paul send you?" Tessa changed the subject, hoping to move this conversation along. She really wanted to get out of the crowd that somehow seemed to be multiplying by the minute.
"Yes," The man turned to look at Tessa. "The name's Mal. I'm their bodyguard. But, I believe we already met. It was the same night the boys almost hit you two with their car." He clarified when he saw the confused expression on Tessa's face.
"Oh, that's where I recognize you from." She exclaimed as the light bulb went on in her head. "It's nice to see you again." She smiled at him and Mal returned it with a grin of his own.
"You as well, Miss Gilbert."
"I'm sorry," Franny jumped in, not sounding sorry at all. "I don't mean to be rude, but is there a reason we're supposed to be in this cesspool of girls, or can I go home now?"
"Oh right!" Mal exclaimed, suddenly becoming professional. "Follow me, ladies." He directed the girls through the crowds with ease. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that Mal was the only adult male in the crowd, because he had a much easier time getting through the people than Tessa and Franny. They walked around the station and were able to get out of the police barricade. Tessa could feel the murderous looks that the girls on the other side of the barrier where giving them. Mal led them to the other side of the train that the boys were filming in and took them in an entrance towards the caboose.
