I met a stranger
And somewhere
along the way
they became
a friend
                              And I say this because
I want you to know
That maybe I can't
give you my heart
because trust is a thing
that I'm still learning
But I want you to stay
for the day
when I place
my heart in
your hands
And say, quietly:
"I know you'll take good care of it."

A Friday intermediate Ceroc class made me realise there are still somethings I have to learn - like placing my safety almost solely in the hands of my dance partner. It's incredibly frustrating to know that some people I consider friends do not have that trust - that I still shy away from actually making it a partnership in at least that one dance. One of those people is Aaron, and he's been incredibly good-natured about it, considering how long we've been friends and yet I still feel a little bad about it.
That's just one example of trust though. There are others to which this poem is dedicated: Namely, Heather and Bernard, who have given me friendship, patience, and love, and who I hope to have the confidence to properly share myself with one day.
