CHAPTER I
THE ONE WHERE THEY MEET !

October 15 1969 ;

THE GIRL WITH DARK BROWN HAIR stepped out of the car, slamming the door behind her. She looked around at her surroundings before entering the small DX Station she had found whilst in the middle of nowhere. She grabbed a few snacks and a water humming along to the familiar Elvis song playing.

"Good afternoon, ma'am," A charming young man said, flashing her a toothy smile.

"Afternoon," She replies, her voice soft and a bit dreamy.

"This all for today?" He asks and she can barely read the chicken scratch on his name tag.

"Yes," The girl replies looking for spare change as he tells her the amount due, "Sorry," She adds sheepishly as she digs through her purse.

"No worries, ma'am," He says, "But my break starts in about 5 minutes so before then, please."

She huffs and grins triumphantly when pulling out a few coins and handing them to him.

He takes the cash and coins, placing them into the cash register, he leans forward smiling again, "Sodapop."

"Excuse me?" She says grabbing her snacks and water.

"My name," He says, "It's Sodapop."

"Interesting," She says, and holds out her hand, "Lilly."

"Interesting," Sodapop repeats and she rolls her eyes.

"It's a common name," She responds.

"No, I mean your necklace, what's it mean?"

She holds up the charm with the symbol of peace, "Peace."

"Peace for what?" Sodapop asks.

"Well, there is a war going on," Lilly tells him, "Don't you know about it?"

"Well yeah, but-"

"Ah," She says holding up a finger, "You don't care, because you aren't there."

"That's not what I meant," Sodapop says. "Where're you from?"

"California," She says.

"Ah makes sense, California," He laughs at himself, "You part of them people that are always talking about peace and sitting around trees singing Kumbaya."

"Would you like me to sing right now?" Lilly asks him.

"No, I'd rather not," He smirks and she rolls her eyes glaring at him, he raises his eyebrow and continues smiling happily.

Lilly grabs her things and leaves the DX, the boy laughing loudly as she gets into her car, and drives off looking for somewhere to stay the night.
