CHAPTER VI
THE ONE WHERE SHE KISSES HIM !November 7 1969 ;
ONCE SHE HAD KISSED HIM SHE HAD INSTANTLY regretted it. She hadn't meant to, well maybe she did, he was laughing at one of his own stupid jokes and she felt her stomach flip and her heart flutter as she pulled his lips to hers. She smiled as his arms wrapped around her waist and he kissed her back, making her weak in the knees.
She pulled away almost instantly, but he kept her close afraid to let her go, "Why'd you do that?" He asked her.
"I—I don't know," Lilly stutters looking up at his bright blue eyes.
He doesn't respond, just stands there his eyes looking from her lips to her eyes, "Can I—"
"Yeah."
Sodapop presses his lips to hers once more, both their hearts beating quickly and their knees going weak as they struggled to pull each other closer.
"Hey, Darry says its time for—" Ponyboy stops when noticing the pair, "Oh sorry."
"Tell Darry we're coming," Sodapop responds and Ponyboy leaves, shutting the door.
Lilly laughs and lays her head on Soda's shoulder as he laughs halfheartedly.
—
Lilly sat in her car which was parked in front of the Curtis household, she knew they were still up because she could hear the boys hollering and laughing. She opened the car door but closed it once more, this happened a few more times before she forced herself out of the car.
She walked up the porch stairs and hesitantly knocked on the door, Dally opened it wide and grinned.
"Hi Lilly bug," He says and she grins.
"Can I talk to Soda?"
Dallas nods and heads back inside, soon enough Sodapop steps outside.
"Hey," Lilly breathes out.
"Hi," He responds.
"Want to take a walk?" Lilly asks.
"Eh, yeah, let me grab my shoes," He laughs.
"And a shirt while you're at it!" Lilly laughs blushing a bit, Sodapop winks and runs back inside.
When he returns he takes hold of Lilly's hand, swinging them back and forth.
"You know," Sodapop says, "I used to have this girlfriend-"
"Sandy?" Lilly interrupts.
"Eh yeah, how'd you know?"
"Two-Bit may or may not have let it slip," Lilly laughs lightly.
"Oh," Sodapop laughs, "Anyways, I loved her a lot. I felt like I could tell her everything and I thought she could tell me everything. That is what's important to me, to be able to talk with each other. It turns out that I couldn't really trust her, she got pregnant and moved away, I guess she didn't trust me enough to know that I would've helped her through."
"What about the part about her being a bitch?" Lilly asks.
"What?" Sodapop says.
"Nothing," Lilly says, "Just something Two said."
"Oh well yeah, the gang didn't like her much," Sodapop says sheepishly.
"Okay," Lilly laughs.
She never really noticed how tall Sodapop was until she tried to rest her head against his shoudler, only to find she would have to stand on her tippy-toes to reach it.
"Lilly," Sodapop says, "I just want you to know you can trust me. And I hope you trust me as much as I trust you."
"I'm not Sandy," Lilly tells him.
"I know, you are much better than Sandy," Sodapop smiles.
"Am I really now?" Lilly laughs.
"Yeah, you are by far more beautiful than Sandy. More beautiful than any girl I've ever seen," Sodapop says and Lilly blushes, nudging him.
"Yeah?" She questions, standing in front of him as he stops walking.
"You don't believe me?" Sodapop laughs.
"No," Lilly says shaking her head. He laughs and leans down, kissing her cheek, "What was that?" She asks.
"A kiss," Sodapop says, "You don't believe me?"
"No," Lilly repeats and he places his hands on either sides of her face kissing her again.
"Now?" He asks after he pulls away.
"Yeah," Lilly smiles.
"Good," He responds.
