Chapter thirteen

A promise she's not sure she can keep

Kana was free, but she didn't feel like it. She was walking around a village, but she isn't able to see the wonders of it or even enjoy it. She learned the truth and everything is almost over, but she has this heavy feeling in her chest. To her, she was still a caged bird that is very far away from its nest. It has been 2 days since they last left the land of the hills and they have been traveling by land ever since so that they wouldn't attract any enemies. And since then, Kana was blindfolded. Kana felt like she hasn't seen the light for a year yet it was only just two days. Being blindfolded, she always had the fear of falling or being attacked, she also couldn't tell time and didn't know whether a day has passed or not. She could only tell on how tired she has been from walking. Her senses sharpen a bit like her hearing; she got to memorize new voices and could hear even the faintest sound. But luckily, one of Kakashi's ninken, Pakkun helped her walk and keep her from harms way. Although Kana was quite unsure of what to do all time, she knew she had to have her faith on him.

She heard a door open and someone grunt and a pig oink. She cautiously stepped inside as she heard the door close behind her. She swallowed the lump in her throat. Where am I? She asked herself inwardly. Before she entered the room, she heard Shikamaru and Team Kakashi talk to someone for a while. She wasn't able to hear it well because they spoke in hushed voices, but the only thing they could make out is Aki's name. She guessed that they were talking about Aki and Yamato's whereabouts. Yamato was with Aki at the prison in the village.

"Kana-san, I'll be removing the blindfold now. Don't worry; we're all using the protective glasses that we borrowed from the land of the hills." Shikamaru said and with that, the blindfold was taken off. She slowly opened her eyes and blinked a few times to adjust her eyes to the light. She gaped as she looked around her surroundings. She looked like she was in a office. There was a woman with blonde hair and a diamond on her forehead sitting before her behind a wooden desk that has been piled up with files, documents and papers and a woman with short, black hair stood beside her who held a small, cute pig wearing clothing. They were all wearing protective glasses.

Shikamaru leaned closer to Kana. "Kana-san, this is the hokage, Tsunade-sama." Shikamaru whispered. Kana nodded as she took a small bow in respect. She was the woman she was supposed to talk to. The woman stared at her for a while, as if studying her before nodding, urging her to continue.

"Lady Hokage, I'm Hitomi Kana, the prince—"

"Yes, I know about you. Your father spoke to me concerning about you and requested the mission to escort you to the land of the hills." She said as she got one of the documents and flipped from page to page. "So, why are you here?" She asked straightforwardly.

"I'm here to ask a request to bring Hatake Kakashi back to the land of the mountains to...do some unfinished business." She said hesitantly at the last part of her second sentence.

"And what is that unfinished business, if I may ask?" She said as she put down the document and looked at Kana in the eyes.

     "Well...you see...it's my fau—"
