Chapter sixteen

The 'I miss you' game

Dear Kakashi-san,

Was all she wrote on the piece of paper on her wooden desk. She was always a loss for words when it comes to him. It's like her mind just suddenly becomes blank and stopped working. She was writing a farewell letter that her father highly suggested. She let out a sigh once she remembered what her father said to her last night...

"May I come in?" A familiar male's voice said from the other side of the door. Kana quickly stood up and wiped her tears with the back of her hand. She ran a hand through her hair, trying to fix it and straightened her dress. And lastly, she stood up properly as she opened the door.

"Hello father, did something happen?" She asked casually.

"Nothing really, I just wanted you to give you something." Kana side stepped so he could enter and she closed the door behind her. "Here, it's a letter for Kakashi and the others. I thought that you should give it to him tomorrow considering that they're already going to leave." He said as he handed her a small envelope with a letter inside.

Kana's gaped as her eyes widened in surprise. "How do you—"

"It was obvious from the very beginning. Just one look in his eye and you could tell that he's not under a genjutsu, it's not like Aki's. I just didn't tell you so that the both of you can still bond while it still lasts." He explained simply. "I know that he's going to leave tomorrow judging by the looks on both of your faces." He stated pointing at her face. Kana bowed her head in guilt, realizing that what Kakashi said a while ago was the truth. "I highly suggest that you should write him a letter too. To you know, remember you by."

"But what if I don't want to be remembered?"

He held her chin and lifted up so that she could look him in the eyes. "A little souvenir won't hurt right? Now stop worrying. You're too pretty for that." He said with a small smile.

     "Thank you father."

"You're welcome, Kana." And with that, he opened the door and left the room. Kana closed the door once again as she started reading the letter her father made.

Dear Kakashi, Sakura, Sai, Naruto and Yamato,

It was a great pleasure to meet and get to know you all. I thank you for all the kind efforts you have done for my daughter, Kana. I'm truly sorry for the burden we have place upon your shoulders. I hope that one day we can all meet again and maybe have some tea.

Yours truly,

King Wataru.

Kana stared at her blank piece of paper. What will she write? And more importantly, can she even write to him, knowing her promise with Lady hokage? Kana let out a sigh and decided to just write anything that comes to her mind. She took a deep and started writing.

Yours truly,

Kana.

She let out a sigh of relief once she finally finished it. She quickly folded it and place it inside a neat envelope. She suddenly heard a knock on the door 'causing her to jump in surprise. "Kana, they're about to leave." Her father announced from the other side of the door. Upon hearing what he said, she leapt out of the chair while holding the two envelopes and flew open the door to see her surprised father.

"Then what are you waiting for? Christmas? Let's go!" She said in a rush as she ran as fast as she could toward the gates. "Kakashi-san! Sakura-san! Sai-san! Naruto-san!" Kana called as she ran toward them. She was still in her night gown but she didn't care. She had to give Kakashi the letter. All of them stopped and turned around to look at her. When she finally caught up, she placed her hands on her knees, taking deep breaths. "I'm here to give you all a letter." She said as she handed them her father's letter. "That's for all of you." Then she handed her letter to Kakashi. "Now that's for you."

They were about to open it but Kana stopped them by calling their names. "Don't open it yet! Do it when I'm not there already, okay?" She said, flashing them an eye smile. They all nodded before waving goodbye at her. "Wait, Kakashi-san," He turned around as Kana ran toward him and gave him a small peck on the cheek. His cheeks flushed bright pink at her sudden purposely move as he held the cheek where her lips made contact. "Thank you...for everything."

Kakashi nodded in response, he was quite speechless. All he could say was a simple goodbye in return. Then, he continued walking away. It was the same thing like a few days ago. Although this time her thank you for everything meant something else. Her "thank you for everything" was a way for her to say goodbye at the same time she was thanking him. Kana hugged herself as she watched them slowly walk away. She looked up at the sky and watched the clouds move freely. "Hmm, I already miss you and you've just left. I guess that's already counted as one."

Meanwhile when they were already a few miles away, Kakashi opened the envelope and unfolded the letter. It wrote...

Dear Kakashi-san,

Thank you for everything. Thank you for making me smile when I am down and thank you for making me believe in myself and in my dreams again. Thank you for never giving up on me and thank you for staying by my side even though I'm such a burden. This simple thank you and farewell note is not enough to thank you for your kindness. Frankly, you're the best thing that has ever happened to me. Words cannot explain how much you mean to me. You made me the achieve things that I never thought I can. You made my boring life into a fun and adventurous one. You changed me from a caged bird to a carefree cloud. You made my life worth living.

You made me feel alive.

And so I've decided that we should play this game. Whenever we remember or miss each other we should look up at the sky and we should count how many times we did that. Whoever gets the highest number of the times gets to win, okay? And when we meet again one day, by mistake or not, let's tell each other how much we've counted so far.

Yours truly,

Kana.

Kakashi looked up at the sky and gaze at its beauty. He recalled all the times they spent together in that island and how they've been through so much things. He smirked as he folded the letter and put it back inside the envelope.

     "One," He muttered.

THE END.
