Chapter 5

Kait POV

"How much time do we have before he's out of the hospital?" I asked Melanie.

"Probably a few weeks. Why?" she replied.

"I want to get blackout curtains and anything else necessary to make sure no one can see inside my house from any point around it." I said.

"Isn't that a little extreme?" she said.

"After what happened? No, I don't think so. He was watching inside my bedroom window while I was having sex. Do you want people looking in your bedroom window while you're having sex?" I said.

"No, but--"

"Exactly. He's gone too far. This isn't just at the 'ex husband hasn't gotten over his wife' stage anymore. This is dangerous, Melanie. He looked in my window, saw me with Cory, and then proceeded to break into my house, kidnap Cory, and almost kill him. Who's a little extreme now?" I said, interrupting her.

"Get the keys. Let's go." She said, walking out the door.

"One problem, though. I have no idea where to find blackout curtains." I said when I sat down in the truck.

It took us awhile to find some, but eventually we found them at a Meijer in the middle of nowhere. They had just enough to cover all the windows in my house. We got all of them up in around a week, which was unfortunately the amount of time in which he stayed in the hospital. I found this out from the local Guardians that Rose, Dimitri, and Janine have talked to, filling them in with the situation just to be on the look out.

"Now I guess it's time to check out this plan. I've set up motion detectors in various placed throughout the yard that will make sounds only in here to let me know that anyone's lurking around while they don't know they've been caught." I said. "I also set up a sprinkler system that I'll turn on when the motion detectors go off. Only if I choose, of course."

"I hope your plan works. I can't believe that they didn't has him arrested in kidnapping and attempted murder charges." Vince said.

"I wish they did, but since Dhampirs were involved, it might go over to the Royal Court. Usually the Human police try not to get into Vampire-related affairs. Queen Dragomir might also be interested in it because he's a Human that used to be Viu. She's all about that shit. If it has anything to with changing species or anything else Spirit-related, she's all over it." I said.

"You know the queen personally?" Vince commented.

"Queen Dragomir loves me! I have no idea why, but I think it's because my family is so strange and she wants to understand Viu more seeing as we've only recently started to come about." I said.

"Viu are kinda hard to understand at times. I'm surprised Melanie hasn't wanted to change the kids and I yet."

"She's talked to me about it. She wants to wait until the kids are fully grown to change them and she hasn't changed you yet because she doesn't know if you want to be Viu or not. So believe me, she wants to, but she's just not sure about it yet. Try bringing up the subject sometime and see what she does." I said.

"I'm not so sure." He said, hesitantly.

"Why? What's there to lose? The worst she can do is say no and drop the subject."

"You don't know what it's like when you make Melanie mad."

"Oh? I'm her best friend. I've seen her mad and it's not pretty. I've seen and experienced just about everything she has since the moment I healed her."
