Kait POV

*********

I knew Melanie would look for me. I wasn't stupid. I tried to avoid getting into a life-threatening situation with her by going to the one place I knew I'd be free of her: Madrid, Spain. The problem was that I wasn't even there for a week before I got news of some woman killing off Strigoi.

"Kait! Get over here!" my 'boss', Jordi spat.

"Yes?" I said coldly.

"I have bad news. There's some woman out there killing off Strigoi."

"Do you have a name or what she might look like?" I spat, concerned it was who I feared it might be.

"No, no one ever comes back alive. We have no idea." He answered, disgusted.

"Perfect. What do you want me to do about it?" I snapped.

"Find her. And kill her." Jordi demanded.

"Can do. If she is who I think she is, and her motive is what I think it is, she'll hesitate and it'll be easy." I said."I'll begin tonight."

Luckily, right before I was going to leave to find this woman, someone encountered her and came back alive.

"What the hell happened to you?!" I insisted.

"That, that woman! She let me live! She was looking for you, Kait. She sent a message for you." The survivor stuttered.

"Well, what was it? Don't just leave me in question!" I spat.

"She told me 'Tell her Melanie Lions is looking for her.'"

"Just as I thought. I'll take care of her. Don't worry about anything." I said, running out the door.

Melanie POV

*************

I stuck to a nocturnal schedule once I got to Spain. It was easiest in order to find Rosa. As much as I hated drinking, I hung out around Moroi bars simply because I knew Strigoi would hang around and one of those Strigoi might be Rosa or know Rosa. I stayed for a few hours each night, giving enough time for Strigoi to begin lingering, then I left. I made sure to look for them, hiding out in alleys and behind buildings, just where I was sure they'd be. Then the red eyes would appear. I'd fight them until I had them pinned down so I could stake them, then interrogated them. I'd always ask them a question, then shove the stake into their chest an inch, ask another question, shove the stake deeper, etc.

"Do you know Kait Welling?!" I yelled.

"Go to hell!" the Strigoi spat, then screamed as I shove the stake into the chest.

"I'll repeat, do you know Kait Welling?" I asked.

"Who?" the Strigoi asked.

"Kait Welling. Tall, long brown hair, perfect body?"

"Look lady, I've never heard of her!" the Strigoi yelled.

"Then you're of no use to me." I said, shoving the stake directly into his heart, killing him.

This went on for roughy two weeks before someone finally knew Rosa.

"Do you know Kait Welling?!" I yelled.

"Kait who?" the Strigoi asked.

"Kait Welling! Tall, long brown hair." I said, shoving a stake into his chest.

"Yes! Yes! I know her! Love of god! I know her!" The Strigoi said, wincing in pain.

"Tell her Melanie Lions is looking for her." I said, letting him go.
