Chapter 12

Cory POV

After Kait disappeared, Melanie left a week later with no warning. She didn't say why or where she was going, she just said her goodbyes and left. After she didn't come back for a month, I decided to confront Vince about their disappearance.

"Vince! We new to talk!" I said one day while he was watching TV.

"You never talk to me. What's wrong?" he answered.

"Where did Kait and Melanie go?" I asked.

"You might not want to know." He said.

"So you do know. If my fiancée is in danger, I have a right to know what's going on, Vince."

"I was told not to tell you for fear that you'll go nuts and chase after them. Melanie is already taking care of it." Vince stated.

"Tell me. Now." I demanded.

"Fine, just because I don't want you to kill me like Kait would. Kait, uh, Awakened herself, and Melanie went to chase after her to, uh, kill her." He said a felt my heart drop to my stomach.

"Oh. I see, thank you." I said, still trying to process the shock of it all.

I didn't know what to say or how to react. The love of my life has turned herself into a monster and didn't want to be found.

"Vince?" I said.

"Yes?" he said.

"Did Melanie tell you where she was going?" I said, hoping to get some more information.

"I know what you're doing and I won't give you that information." He said, coldly.

"Figures." I said, sitting down.

"When are you going to tell Rachel and Melanie?" Vince asked.

"I'm not sure. I'll have to tell them eventually, but they're both in college. I'm not sure if I want to tell them for fear that they'll slip with their studies. They're essentially orphans. I heard on the news that Dave was killed, probably by Kait, hence the strange bites on his neck, and Kait isn't dead, but might as well be." I said.

"They'll find out eventually. It might as well be sooner than later."

"I guess. I'll probably call them tomorrow sometime."

"No, you'll call them now." Vince insisted.

"Fine. I'll call them now."

Both of Kait's kids went nuts. They kept saying that she had no reason to willingly become Awakened. They'd already heard about their father, and weren't sure what to think about his death. There was nothing any of us could do about this. I felt as if my entire being was falling apart.

Melanie POV

I made sure to check my surroundings as soon as I woke up. I flinched when I looked beside me and found Rosa sitting in and armchair.

"Good morning." She said when she saw I flinched.

"What are you doing here?" I said, freaking out.

"I was watching you sleep."

"Apparently that's not all you were doing." I said, seeing the sketchbook in her hand.

"I had some company, yes. I also worked on some stuff with Apple, wearing contacts of course. I'm not stupid enough to show my bosses that I'm Strigoi." She said.
