Kait POV

**********

Everything that I did as a Strigoi felt like a dream, scratch that, it felt like a nightmare. Only, it wasn't a nightmare or a dream, it was me. I did those things, me, Kait. I killed innocent people and worse, I'd wanted to kill my best friend. I cheated on Cory, I tried to kill my best friend, even kidnapped and fed from her! I screamed at her, threw her across the room, tried to get her to become one of the living dead, and the list went on.

"God, Mels I'm so sorry. What the hell got into me? Why did I ever think being Awakened was a good idea?" I said between sobs.

"Shh, don't talk." She said, pulling me into a tight hug.

"Well, together we're invincible. What do you say we go back inside and kick some Strigoi ass?" I said.

"You don't have a stake." She said.

"But you do and I know the building, all the door codes, security locations, everything. I know where to get another stake, one for myself." I said, hoping to con her into the idea.

"Fine, I suppose."

"Perfect, come on. We have vampire ass to kick." I said, plugging to code into the door.

We were met that to door by three Strigoi. The first thing I did was light one on fire using the magic that was returned to me. He was diminished to a pile of ashes with in a few minutes, which gave Melanie the perfect amount of time to stake the other two. We ran up the stairs and got through the next door with no problems. I stopped by my room to change and shove the rest of my stuff into a sack. All my stuff fit into a standard school backpack. I knew I'd be fighting, so I changed into semi-appropriate clothing. I put on my favorite pair of American Eagle jeans, a blue plaid shirt, and Nike Air Force 1 tennis shoes. This type of outfit was usually my go-to for fighting simply because it was comfortable. When I changed, we ran down to the vault as quickly as we could, staked the guards, and grabbed a three stakes, enough for two for each of us.

"Now we're ready to kick ass." I said, running to the one place I knew there would be a lot of Strigoi: the sitting room that doubled as a library.

"Where should we go first?" Melanie asked.

"Follow me." I said, running to the library where I found most of the building population sitting and listening to a meeting.

The second the door opened, all of their heads turned to look at us. They all seemed to give me a look of respect, but they had the same look of malice and hatred Strigoi were known to have. The only problem was that I noticed a familiar face, a very familiar face. It was a girl. She was tall and thin, obviously a Moroi before she was either Awakened or chose to be Awakened. Her neck-length strawberry blonde hair had grown down to about her mid-back, roughly the same length as mine. As soon as I looked at her, I knew she saw me and recognized me and I knew what I had to do. I ran over to Melanie and grabbed the Spirit charmed stake from her pocket and ran up to her, staking all other Strigoi that got in my way.

"Why are you here, Kait?" She said in a malicious tone.

"I lived here." I said, punching her in the face, catching her off guard.

"That. Hurt." She said, attempting to punch me back, which ended up being a punch to the wall.

"Don't hesitate." I said, knocking her to the ground and pinning her there.

"Why is Profe here?!" She yelled, seeing Melanie.

"She helped me in the same way I'm helping you!" I screamed, shoving the Spirit-charmed stake into her heart.
