As Hugh reached the landing he heard a range of banging noises coming from Enoch's room, followed by a train of very annoyed grumbles.

He cautiously walked up to Enoch's door and knocked twice,

"Uh Enoch, are you alright in there?"

At that moment all the banging stopped and a few seconds later Enoch's door opened just enough so he could poke his head out.

"What do you want?" He spat.

"Nothing it's just, I heard the argument downstairs and then there was banging coming from your room and I was just wondering if you were ok."

At the mention of the argument, Enoch's face changed ever so slightly to an emotion, undetectable by many,  but it was there.
An emotion that, deep down, frightened Hugh. There, on Enoch O'connor's face was vulnerability.

Normally Enoch was as tough as old boots and the only other time that any of the residents at the home had seen Enoch look so vulnerable was when Victor died, so immediately Hugh knew that this was bad, very bad.

"I'm fine." He choked,  "I'm just working on something. "

Realising what was about to happen, Enoch quickly retreated back into his room and closed the door, with his head in his hands he slid to the floor and cried.

On the other side of the door sat Hugh, listening to all the remorseful, self confessions that Enoch made,

"Why was I so stupid!" He grumbled as more tears flowed down his cheeks.

"I hurt her, why?" He croaked.

After a while Enoch became silent and Hugh thought that he had fallen asleep until a barely audible whisper crawled through the cracks in the door.

"I love her Hugh. "

"I know."
