"Dude, are you free tonight?" Lawrence, who was Holden's close friend back in his Junior College days, asked over the phone.

"I can't, man. I have a show tonight at Cerulean."

"Damn, are you becoming a famous singer or what? It feels so difficult to meet up with you nowadays," Lawrence complained, which made Holden roll his eyes while he picked his outfit for tonight.

"It's not my fault that I have to work to survive. And for your info, no, I'm not getting famous. I just love singing and the atmosphere of a pub, that's all."

"But could you at least find some time to meet with us? It isn't the same when there's no full strength."

Holden felt guilty as he took in Lawrence's words. Money and interest were indeed important, but how can one live one's life to the fullest without friends?

He sighed. "Alright, I'll try my best to. Update you again?"

"Sure, man. Have a great show tonight." And the call ended.

An hour later, Holden was once again waiting at the side of the stage while the live band set up their musical instruments.

"You're early," a soft voice sounded from the back.

"Kayla," Holden acknowledged, surprised that she was here tonight, even though deep down inside he had hoped to see her.

"Looks like we're partners again tonight," she stated, with what felt like a hint of excitement.

This piece of information made Holden smile. "I'm glad we are. So, you're officially hired by Cerulean Pub, or what?"

Kayla paused for a moment. "I wasn't planning on letting the cat out of the bag so soon, but I guess you got it."

Holden's heartbeat increased, knowing that he would now be performing with Kayla whenever it was a duet night.

"Hey, just to confirm; the songs today are All We Know, Need You Now, Just Give Me A Reason, and 珊瑚海?"

"Bingo." The last duet song for today was a Chinese song, and Holden was very much eager to hear how Kayla's voice would be like in Chinese.

"To be honest, it's really great that they included the last song. I mean, I feel like Chinese songs are going extinct in Singapore."

"Me too."

Having Kayla as his partner meant that he was now one step closer to getting to know Kayla, which was a destination he couldn't wait to reach.

But, don't good things come to those who wait?
