"I'm sorry," was the first thing that came out of Kayla, when her eyes fluttered open, meeting the ones which were pure black.
"Don't be; it's not your fault, but it's just that I got so worried. What happened?"
"It's just..." It wasn't easy for Kayla to confide into Holden the reason why she missed the duet nights. At least, not without having a wave of embarrassment surging over her.
"It's okay; I'm here."
"Girl problems," she muttered, hoping that Holden's ears were sharp enough to catch it.
It seemed like he did, and he didn't even flinch. "That many days?"
"Yeah, it's quite bad this time round."
"Do you need... chocolates or something?"
"No, it's fine," she smiled.
"Is it still fisting you up?"
"Slightly, but much better than the past few days."
"I didn't know I have such an effect on you," Holden joked.
I think you do, Kayla thought to herself.
"Have you managed to eat?"
"I did eat a little, so I'm not really hungry right now."
Holden nodded his head in acknowledgement, and silence ensued.
"You know, I'm still really thankful that you came."
"I'm glad that I came, or else who was going to save you from falling?" Holden smirked, causing Kayla to bit down on her lower lip nervously.
Deep down, Holden's mind was actually going haywire when he uttered those words.
Without the two of them talking, there was only the ticking of the second hand echoing through the room.
"It's well past five. Did you manage to get any rest?"
"Not yet for today."
"You should."
"Okay. And you should head back to rest, after a long night at the pub."
"I will, only after you fall asleep."
Kayla was about to protest, but Holden raised a finger, like a stern father.
"Fine, but only if you'll sing me to sleep."
"Deal. Pick a song, babe." It slipped out of Holden's mouth, but none of them decided to bring it up.
"My Love."
"You got it."
An empty street, an empty house
A hole inside my heart
I'm all alone, the rooms are getting smaller.I wonder how, I wonder why,
I wonder where they are
The days we had, the songs we sang together, oh, yeah. And oh my love, we're holding on forever
Reaching for the love that seems so farAs Kayla's eyes shut slowly, a epiphany appeared in her mind.
She's going to need Holden to catch her, when she falls.
