Tonight was a duet night, and Holden dreaded it.

To his relief, the two weeks following the encounter at Kayla's doorstep were the renovation period, so he didn't have to face her.

But, it was time to bring the duet back on stage after the hiatus. However, Holden wasn't exactly prepared for it.

The sight of the guy having his arm around Kayla was engraved into Holden's mind, and he couldn't stop thinking about it.

There were no calls or texts between him and Kayla, since the both of them didn't know what to do. But, it wasn't like there was anything between them in the first place - expressively, that is.

Unspoken attractions and feelings were undeniable, but none of them took it a step further.

As Holden thought it through, he realized that he hadn't put in enough effort to step up his game, and so he had no rights to give Kayla the cold shoulders.

Sighing, he ascended up the stairs, onto the stage. At the same time, Kayla walked up from the other side.

Their eyes locked, but no gestures or words were exchanged.

The music played.

I found myself dreaming

Holden was transfixed, and he tried his best to catch on every single word belted out of Kayla.

He knew the lyrics at the back of his hand, but they were brought alive when she sang.

Soon enough, it was his verse.

He kept his gaze on Kayla all the time, not caring if his focus should be on engaging the audience.

And the chorus came; it felt like the both of them were expressing their feelings to each other, via their voices which were filled with emotions.
