Kayla stepped out of the bathroom, her blue towel draping over her neck. She lifted one end of it, and brought it up to continue drying her hair as she walked over to her dresser.
The digital clock showed that it was about a quarter to four in the morning. The screen of Kayla's phone lit up, and a name was flashed on it.
Sighing, she picked it up. "Hello?"
"Kayla! Thank goodness you decide to pick up my call," Connor exclaimed, letting out a sigh of relief.
She rubbed the bridge of her nose, closing her eyes and leaned her elbow on the table. "Why did you call?"
"Well, I'm sure you know exactly why I'm calling."
"Tell him I don't want to talk."
"Kayla," Connor coaxed. "You're killing him."
"Well, who was the one that killed first?" Kayla was almost yelling by now, and the emotional stage was slowly surfacing.
"But-"
"No," she cut him off, "I don't want to hear about it. If it's anything regarding him, please don't call me again, and the both of us are still friends."
She hung up the phone, and placed it on the table with a little more force than usual. Before the call, she felt that she was having an amazing night. But, Connor had to ruin it for her.
Mentioning the amazing night brought Kayla back to the pub, where she had first sung at the Cerulean Pub, officially as a live band singer. Together with Holden.
Holden.
If anything, Holden had been a very friendly and welcoming partner. He was patient in explaining the protocols and the structure of the pub, and also constantly keeping a lookout for her.
The main thing was, that his voice was alluring. It was a thing to be able to hit the keys, and another when you have a wonderful voice.
She thought back to the previous week, where she was approached by Larry to help out for the night since Holden's partner decided to ditch him. As the verse drew nearer, she begun belting out the song and out of the corner of her eye, she didn't miss the surprised look plastered on Holden's face.
And she couldn't deny that it was adorable.
So, when Larry offered her a place to sing, Kayla didn't hesitate to agree.
A smile appeared on her face, and her eyes were drawn back to her phone.
It was missing the number of one person.
